All-Star Pitcher Lincecum Busted with Pot

Tim Lincecum, the San Francisco Giants' diminutive (for a pitcher) righty phenom, has become the latest sports star to be caught smoking pot in 2009. The recent trend was kick-started by Olympic champion Michael Phelps’s bong hit heard ‘round the world earlier this year and continued by Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes and National League Rookie of the Year Geovany Soto.

Lincecum – who won the Cy Young Award in 2008 and is thought to be in the running to win the award again this year (the announcement will come later this month) – was caught speeding in Washington State near the Oregon border. A patrolman smelled marijuana when Lincecum rolled down his window and the All-Star pitcher handed over his stash – 3.3 grams of pot and a pipe.

Tiny Tim, as he is affectionately referred to in ESPN’s studios, will plead guilty to paraphernalia possession and pay $372 in fines. As part of the agreement, the drug charge (for the miniscule 3.3 grams) would be dropped pending approval from a judge. …sfgate.com
