Verdict in for New Jersey Man Using Marijuana to Treat MS

In mid-2008 John Ray Wilson of Franklin Township, New Jersey was busted by police for growing 17 marijuana plants. Wilson, who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis, was hoping to use a medical defense in court as he contends that he was using marijuana to treat symptoms of the disease.

 

Judge Robert Reed ruled early on that Wilson could not base his defense on medical necessity, could not even mention the illness in connection with the marijuana he was charged with manufacturing.

 

However, yesterday, in a surprising turn of events, Judge Reed did allow Wilson to take the stand and mention his medical condition.

 

This occurred because Wilson’s attorneys wanted to rebut testimony from police at the scene of the raid. According to New Jersey NORML’s Chris Goldstein, who’s been attending the trial, “because of the Judge’s earlier limitation rulings … Wilson could not offer anything regarding medical marijuana … or that cannabis can help treat MS. But earlier in the day Det. Sgt. William Peacock … testified that during their search of John’s property he could not recall asking what John intended to do with the cannabis plants. Another State Trooper on the scene testified that he did not recall any conversations either.” This opened the door for Wilson to give the jury his version:

 

“I told them (the arresting officers) I was not a drug dealer and I was using the marijuana for my MS (Multiple Sclerosis).”

 

Today the jury reached a verdict. Wilson was found guilty of second-degree manufacturing as well as third-degree possession of psychedelic mushrooms. However, the verdict can still be seen as a victory for Wilson as he was found not guilty of the most serious charge, “maintaining a manufacturing facility for marijuana," which carried a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

I was poisoned. This was confirmed after tracing the origin, it was found that someone with a stupid brain on hightimes last year very stupidly suggested sprinkling tobacco juice on the dirt of the growing plant, to keep away the fruit flies and other bugs. He also put salvia with it. This in effect poisoned the plant. Every day he would sprinkle the toxin into the dirt. Everyday, the dirt was getting more and more toxic. I am no scientist, but it could have been that everyday, more and more polonium which IS a toxic radiation might have accumulating in the soil. Everyday more and more nicotine was being adsorbed by the plants' roots. Everyday more and more of this toxin was being absorbed into the plant.

I was timing my tokes, making sure to hold each toke in for 60 seconds, not knowing that instead of having an all healing effect, I was experiencing the opposite. I would experience unknown fear. I would get headaches which I never had before. I never had headache problems in my life. I felt like I was going crazy. I felt like I was dying. My lungs felt like there was acid burning in them. My heart was racing, and I had no clue. I was being poisoned, and every month, from july of last year to December, I was experiencing the negative effects of the toxic weed that was getting stronger and stronger. Poisoned. I made the ignorant one destroy this sick plant. He didn't act as though he understood the danger. This alone is alarming to me.

My chest pains went away though, and my lungs aren't burning as much, but I just had to pass this knowledge along so that others will be very careful where they get they're stuff. You don't want to loose your faith in the world like I felt like I was doing. Instead of seeing love vibes, I was seeing unloving vibes all around me. I believe this is what makes all disease. Lack of love. I felt like I was experiencing hell on earth. Weed is meant to take away all our problems. The weed I had was giving me more mental and physical problems than I could bare.
Lesson learned.
BE CAREFUL!!!

Much love to the REAL and true imbibers who keep it PURE. Keep it an all healing thing people! Life is too precious to throw it away. What is the matter is that people are too afraid to speak the truth. This I know to be a fact.

Illinois has long been a haven for criminals since the 1920's when Al Capone started it all. The underground movement in this state is so large, that state officials are in the pockets of the crooks, or are crooks themselves. Look at the former governor. Why do you think it's not been legalized so far? If it was legal, every bud loving person in the state would grow their own!

People need marijuana for medicinal purposes, to combat the use of all the harmful drugs their doctor's have put them on. They also need it for recreational purposes, as alcohol only makes you stupid and violent, which is a proven fact. Do you think that these FDA drugs have been researched to such an extent that they're not as equally or more harmful to you? When the FDA releases a drug, they do so with the intention to help as many people whose bodies can tolerate the drug...to hell with the rest that it kills because of this industry's need to brainwash you that these drugs are something that you need. They need your "buy in" that their drugs do you good. Pot has been around for so long, and they still say that not enough research has been done to determine the harmful effects.

D-U-H...PEOPLE have been around for a long time too and are still using marijuana to combat the proven side effects of the drugs the FDA pronounces legal, This is nothing more than an intention to reap a profit and kill you, with your consent. What a concept...getting people to buy into this nonsense! And you believed them; that they were there to help you, and YOU END UP DEAD! If even one drug of theirs kills one person, it should be taken off the market immediately. If we were allowed to grow marijuana legally, where would all their profit go? Regardless, it should be legalized for medicinal and relaxation purposes, because of the PROVEN BENEFITS it provides, and that this substance DOES GOOD FOR EVERYONE, not just those that are sick.

Human life is the most precious commodity we have on this planet. Why is is that we value it so little as to not make good use of a resource that is not man made and not designed to kill us for a profit other people can make. Instead, we can all grow our own pot for ourselves, or grow it for profit. Why not?

It's the American way our forefathers had in mind when the wrote the Declaration of Independence, keeping in mind the premise of "Life, liberty and pursuit of happiness". Our government has spent and is currently spending an extraordinary amount of money on a program that has had no effects or proven benefits.

I say the government should pay a subsidy back to the American people for misuse of the resources that we allowed them to have for the last sixty years in it's War On Drugs. It also says in the Declaration that if a people believes that their government is abusing it's rights, then is is equally the right of the people to put a stop to it. Now more than at any other time in our history, would it be a time for the people to intervene in what they are doing.

STOP supporting your crooked congressmen in the great state of Illinois (which has now proven to be the laughing stock of the nation by our illustrious former Governor)and put people in office that really can make things right. Only people that smoke marijuana for their own reasons need apply...

The war inside my head is over thank God. I don't know if my stuff was laced or what but I feel like a sap. I now know why the prohibitionists are afraid. I was up all night trembling. I won't spread my fear and explain, but I will say that I now have an understanding. I now know why the prohibitionists are afraid. Don't misunderastand me. I'll always have a fond feeling for good weed.
My life is hereby changed for the better I feel cause I now know what was making me so bitter. A lack of understanding. Freedom is great. But what of the 2 year olds? There has got to be a way to work this out. However, until I fully understand the picture, I am going to nurse my health back. I have been studying and praying for an answer. I found mine. Cannabis is medicine and we all know now, the dirty government just wants to take the money from drug dealers and split it with their friends, just like a thief who steals from a thief, is simply just a chain of crime all the way to the top, and we are the people who get regulated, bitch slapped and mugged by the politicians, I don't understand how politicians with no medical training at all, are in charge of what medicine you should take, why are they oppressing the doctors and marginalizing them and humiliating them by now letting them participate in the medical reform they claim they want?

Their is now no Father .The family has been broken apart .
How can the Mother work when she takes care of her Children ?

My spelling is un-proofread because I have no net service at home so i have to take the laptop in a public setting, so when i type i type lightning fast so the passerby's don't see as I don't want to lose my anonymity lol. the troll made me have chest pains. almost killed me Thursday, the same day rush Limbaugh had the very same thing happen, i actually had chest pains so severe i had to force myself away from this computer. i remember feeling so let down about warmongers, that there wasn't anything i could do to make the world better that i actually saw the color red in my vision. This never happened to me ever before in my life, so i pulled the laptop power cord and forced myself to shut off my bedroom light and lye down. I don't have net service at home. I have to take the laptop to wherever I can hook up. I have been reading the thoughts of people on these fine boards at home. Anyway, I still saw the red in my vision with the light off, so i knew i may be having serious problems. Maybe a stroke. I then knew i had to think of something pleasant and good to counteract the negative spell of heart problems I was having brought upon me by my unwillingness to ignore the trolls. I imagined the red i saw was a red rose that i was lying down in. and i thought how beautiful that it looked. I imagined that i was but one as small as a germ say, or like one of many small antibodies put here to help cure the cancer that is eating away our love for one another., and as soon as love for the red rosy color was felt, the red disappeared from my vision, and i started feeling better. thank god i thought. i don't feel i am ready to depart the world yet. i love it too much. i learned also though to make up with all whom i may have transgressed, and that includes the ole rush dude. We don't know how long we have on this plane. A close brother told me a home remedy for high blood pressure is fasting. And to just drink liquids for like 3 or more days. Cool easy cure; my pressure has been higher than normal lately, cause lack of greenery, exercise, and the right foods.

We all need to find common ground with everyone including the feds, and the prez. we need to refine our patriotic relationship so that we can have our inner security - our inner peace back. I am convinced they are protecting us in their own way, I hope. They can't be all bad folks in charge. after all, if they ever really wanted to shut me up, they could have years ago. There must be guardian angels protecting us all. We should find them, if they will allow us. Those brilliant beings. I have heard rumors of the want of the net to be shut down. Please lets not have anymore of that talk. The unhappy folks need to be shown their "Journey to the light" so to speak. They could never do that maybe without the net. please take into consideration the area in NJ that this story is from. Sussex County is an extremely conservative part of the State, they are sucked into the liberal jargon pumped into thier local media by republicans, yet never see the positives of taxing weed. Most of the state is centrists and liberal too bad Christe will destroy all the Leagalization efforts that have slowly inched it's way into NJ politics. The problem with NJ is Taxes, the perfect solution for NJ is taxing Pot. We all know that weed are harmless and very taxable, however legalization never gains momentum. Well , OK it's cut short a split second of them actually running over the little Child but the point is they are using little Children in life or death situations to deceive you into thinking marijuana is the Devil when it is the opposite.....they are the Devil .
What about the man who provides for his Children and is cast into prison for marijuana . Who suffers are the Children .
They are using Children as a tool to create deception .
Congressman Mark Kirk is calling for 20 years for possessing Marijuana . That's the life of a Child .

Not allowing a certian kind of defense should not be allowed. The true criminal is the court, the judge, the da, and the government. Its more profitable to keep locking people up. I am thrilled to have stumbled on a "Joseph Campbell tape on Mythic literature.

It is about an hour long, but I took some notes and I feel we are sometimes too critical of the masses in general, cause after all, they know not what they do and sometimes I don't lol.

I thank my legislators every day. I live in Montana and now have a medical marijuana card. I am growing my own and in about eight week will be smokeing my own... We now need the federal gov. to get their shit together.

That's the type of bullshit government we live under. In the city of Saint Albans, WV, I've heard of 3 judges that grow and consume marijuana, yes judges. I know some people who have smoked it with them and listened to them brag about being able to get by with it cause they are judges.

Plus the Saint Albans police department has never allowed a black officer on the force in the last 20 years that I have lived in the area.

Their should be zero tolerance of this type of behavior in this city or any city in the United States of American. If government wants to start cleaning up it's image it should start with it's self first, and not with common people trying to deal with pain and suffering from aliments beyond their control.

While I don't think weed is a panacea for disease, I do think it is quite benign...and has proven to relieve many symptoms.
I agree that the "war on drugs" has become the biggest crock of shit in modern history( or related to them anyway).
My brother died last year-he had been using weed most of his life. Well, the good ol drug testers made his boss paranoid-yep he failed a drug test. so, he makes the mistake of using meth, yes I know his own decision-and died of it last year.

Now before anyone comments on his choice and consequences, I agree and understand. The thing is I know he never slept well etc-and only tried meth since it does not show up on the common cheaper urinalysis. In fact, when I was a boss-my problem was drunks. Frankly, my best people( and this was a very physical job) were admitted stoners.

I have relatives and friends in law enforcement too. It floors me that they dare have to be exposed to danger in situations dealing with weed. Why? Only since it is illegal-period. This really bothers me.

Now I have been experiencing Ms symptoms( have sibling with MS) for about a year now. Oops! no insurance! Can't afford it and here if you make any living at all..you make too much for medicaid. Weed can relieve much pain. Still there are other treatments need in addition. Oops, no insurance or any access to it. I guess I get to stay home and die. I am sure my wife and children will be delighted!

But hey I have the Democrats wanting to pass what is now a gutted meaningless bill..just to pass it. The Republicans having "tea parties" to protest the tax cut that over 95% will receive....no vocal protests against HR45=or any other gun issues..and why? The paranoia of the Obama administration taking guns way( has not happened) has rocketed firearm sales to an all time high...and you can't even get ammo of several types. So, in effect fox news paranoia has made many if not all firearms out of reach for so many. ...and the Democrats can't pass healthcare with a filibuster proof majority. What a shithole we are becoming.
Sadly, my children will have to live in it and pay off the debt for the bullshit collapse-due to the greedy-and the debt for the stimulus and recovery.

Who knows..if i live long enough we may start a moderate revolution...common sense and reasonable compromise. Don't think the liberals care about your right to smoke weed any more than the conservatives care about your right to own firearms.

Politicians are 10 years behind the times when it comes to pot use. People have been fighting for a long time against cannabis and hemp prohibition with some movement going on now. Still too slow for those caught up in the jail system for possessing a little weed. It is not christians holding down pot, it is the drug companies, and the police worried about budget cuts. when they finally legalize pot, all the money goes away, it will cost about the same as any other vegetable. No more big budget toys and helicopter raids for the mountains, no more people taking stomach meds, sleeping pills, blood pressure meds, etc. The only money will be in products to refine, cure, cook, etc.
All we can do is vote and write to congress, they have the drug and cop lobby's taking them to lunch and selling their side all the time.

I am a 50-ish male with Multiple Sclerosis on disability. I pay a LOT for health insurance and CAN NOT afford to use it. CoPays, deductible, drug costs, etc. It is there for extreme medical emergency for wife and child.
I cant afford the 'legal' drugs from the drug companies cartel and I am not allowed to smoke marijuana (i live in Georgia). And yes.....I have tried marijuana and it relaxed the muscles that are always in spasm. The relief was amazing!!!!!
However the politicians in my state would prefer that I live in daily pain than let me smoke in the privacy of my own home.
