Medical Cannabis in Kansas?

Thu, Feb 04, 2010 6:58 pm

Kansas could become the 15th state to legalize medical marijuana! Well, okay, that’s not very likely. But Representative Gail Finney has introduced a bill that would allow patients with a prescription to acquire medical cannabis from “compassionate care centers.”

However, Kansans shouldn’t hold their breath. The bill seemingly has very little support in the House. Representative Scott Schwab expressed his (incredibly enlightened) thoughts on the matter:

“Let’s be honest, this would be an attempt to legalize marijuana … It has no benefit for pain management. All it does is make you crave another bag of chips.”

According to KansasCity.com, “Finney has lupus, which she said makes her sympathetic to those with chronic diseases.”

Rep. Schwab is apparently quite healthy.

i have ehlers danlos syndrome and live in kansas, when am i gonna get some relief? the only thing that numbs the chronic pain of frequent joint dislocations is cannabis, but a guy who would dislocate every joint in his arm if he threw a punch wont do so hot in prison if i get caught with my meds

Being from North Carolina where things are a bit more laid back, I was extremely surprised at the pure ignorance of the law makers here in KS when I moved here. What scares me the most is people actually voted for these evil clowns!? What's wrong with you Kansas? Everyone I've met here in this state have been very nice intelligent people, but yet you vote in idiots to represent you. I pray this goes bill gets a shot one day, but I don't see it happening any time soon here, the people first need to wake up and educate themselves on such important issues. Most don't even know the deadly effects of our nation's "Drug War" and that alone is very scary.

I too live in a small KS town, and frankly if pot laws are loosened the smalltown cops wouldn't have a thing to do besides shoot a stray skunk or possum. I've smoked dope for 4o years, and were it not for pot would probably be a Prozac droid by now. I've lived around this coumtry, and by far Kansas is the most backward of all the States I've occupied. Clowns like Roberts and Brownback are the kingpins of major stupidity and phony moralistic claptrap in this place. They seriously need ousted, but like most parasites will just find another place to thrive. Brownback is running for Governor!!

Being from Kansas I can say that the first step is getting some of these politicians here in Ks that have been in office forever "pat roberts" for example, one of many, out of office. These people are so narrow minded when you listen to them talk. There is no thinking outside the box for them at all. I've just been diagnosed with m.s. and i'm strongly considering calling Colorado home, its like night and day on weed laws for being neighbors. They need to have a big sign on I-70 when leaving Ks. into Co. saying "The bullshit stops here"

i assure you that the damage done to the human body from the oil and salt in chips reeks more havic on the body than cannabis does.

if they feel the need to outlaw a plant, they should outlaw poison ivy. that stuff will really mess you up.

"Prohibition... goes beyond the bound of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded" -Abraham Lincoln....hmm

another bag of chips?....the gateway theory does not work. alcohol and nicotine have been proven to be the biggest gateway drugs out there and they're perfectly legal.

Hey Scott,
Your a Representative, because you were voted in by us! You are suppose to be non-bias! Represent us the people and what we vote as a majority we want!!! That's what your job is to do, not give us your non-researched statements and your opinion! Do what the people who voted you in wish to do by voting what they want as a majority!
'Isn't that how it's suppose to work Scott...'?

Abuse of the sick is nothing new
! Of course the goverenment is trying to block natural medicines for the sick. So they can push thier pharmacuatical drugs and keep corrupt LIVE CELLS of domestic terrorist ( AKA POLICE AGENCIES ) alive in this country.

Abuse of sick people, I can tell you a story about these domestic terrorist that work for our goverenment! I was in a in home about to perform a sales presentation. The man of the house was sick with CANCER, so sick, he had lost so much weight and strength that I could have litterally put my thumb and birdie finger around his forarm...

We got into a conversation, and somehow this story came from these people, which I 100% believe.

The man a few weeks earlier was very sick and 911 was dialed. When the abulance came so did a uniformed officer.
It was at that this man was very ill and was having a seizure at the time the abulance and cop was there. The IDIOTS thought the guy was being violent towards them and back up was called. Well we all know how big of cowards law officers are, so of course they brought the calvery.

6 cops count them, 6. 4 county deputies and 2 state patrolmen was on the seen. They beat the pure living hell out of this poor man and placed him under arrest.

He was then taken to the hospital where he stayed for 2 weeks. He would have recovered from the seizure quickly, it was the beating that he took from these domestic terrorist, that almost killed him.

I'm sure that man is dead today, because that was almost 10 years ago, But it just goes to show you that the CRITCALLY ILL in this country have been abused by the goverenment for a long time!

when a person is facing death, trying to stay clam while fighting a life threatening illness and just needs a little break from the fear and anxiety, the nice mellow peaceful buzz that comes with cannabis imo is just as important as any pain medication. Its just another kind of pain.

My hopes are nobody has to learn from their mistakes, but if they do, at least they did learn something...., i rekon.

Lets advance ourselves by not wishing any person become ill.

I know this is going to sound bad. But I hope all those that sit there and say marijuana is not medicinal, get a condition where you get to suffer 24x7. Then when they finally find a medicine that works for them and makes their life worth living, I can come and arrest them and tell them they're wrong for wanting a normal life and that they should just suffer with the side effects of the pills.
Idiots in the Kansas house, wake the heck up. This isn't cheech and chong, many people aren't getting stoned for the hell of it. Some people are doing it because that's all they have, marijuana is a miracle drug for many who suffer.
