No Vote on Dispensary Regulations Bill in Colorado

Fri, Mar 05, 2010 5:47 pm

Share |

Outrage from medical marijuana activists and law enforcement officials alike led to Colorado lawmakers’ decision to put off their vote on House Bill 1284.

The bill in question would require all Colorado dispensaries to obtain a license from both local and state governments. However, the bill’s sponsor cited an addition to the measure that would allow dispensaries to operate for-profit and relax advertising constraints as an attempt to “strike a balance between tight regulations and reasonable accommodations.”

Generally speaking, law enforcement organizations believe the bill will legitimize dispensaries, which will lead to misuse of the dispensary system. Marijuana activists, on the other hand, believe the bill is unconstitutional and could make it more difficult for patients to acquire medicine.

The bill also allows local governments to ban dispensaries – a major sticking point with medical cannabis supporters.

Be responsible and dont be excessive with anything and I beleive thats fair to say marijuana should be legal for the ones of age.It actually might take some off the illegal market that reaches our kids.As long as the schwag sells at 450lb as it does there is going to be market because not every will have money at up prices.the only answer is total legalization, which will divert jobs and equipment from the unwinable war on marijuana,to the security danger and route of all that do not grow here.Cocaine is imported along with heroin so there is a major security breach along the route of tons of product. Our ports and border could benifit from Thosands of men and equipment that currently fight an urban war on its own counrty of people wearing no uniform, over FN marijuana?????we have real crime real enemies and real problems in the U.S

Medical marijuana is a joke, people are selling "medicine" with out ever going to school for it like a pharmacist does. this is a joke and a shame. people who really need it should have documented proof from multiple physicians, people selling it have no clue of the effects of it.. not one of the medical doctors who proscribe it ever ask if you have had past addiction problems. just because people haven't died doesn't mean peoples lives haven't been ruined. no one at the age of 13-18 started smoking pot for medical reasons it was all to get high and now once its medical now they have a physical pain or depression or some type of lying accuse. ur not human if u don't suffer from some type of depression in your life, life is hard stop being weak and suck it up and move on...... I wish law enforcement would just give up on their unrealistic jihad on marijuana. I really don't get these wannabe gestapo types at all. I would figure that law enforcement would want to improve relations with the community and build friendship and trust, but these guys keep getting more and more detached day by day. I mean they are essentially spitting in the face of every voter they can, its truly unbelievable.

The federals have to remember that states have their sovereignty and it has to be respected, there has to be balance of power and when the voters pass new laws, by voting their medical cannabis laws that means the majority of people want something done.
I believe the beautiful Sovereign State of Colorado is serious about protecting the rights of their citizens and what is wrong with that?
that is what we need more of here in California, I am very unhappy with the way the politicians are so out of touch with the voters here, by the way I would love if somebody could tell me which California candidates are medical cannabis friendly so that I can vote for the right candidate. I was looking at medical cannabis friendly candidates and they are not being very clear about the issue or they don't want to talk about it, Governor runners
Carly fiorina,Chuck Devore and Tom Campbell I heard Chuck Devore is completely against medical cannabis and Carly Fiorina does not want to talk about it, I read somewhere that Tom Campbell is the right person and would not be biased against medical cannabis, what ever can someone please let us know if you know where the candidates stand? we need to elect the right people to represent the people not the feds, thanks high times.

how about a ban on liquorstores, stripclubs, casino's, banks, crackhouses,....Banning it means making it go somewhere else. If your lawmakers are not aware of that, they should not be in office.Creating public awareness is key so let's get out there and make people what is what. How about setting up a relief organisation like the red cross, we will be the green leaf!

Hey Bo i hear you but do you think pretending to be a pharmacy or just keeping a low profile actually works creating goodwill towards ''potheads''. Then what about Marc Emery selling his seeds and getting this outrageous sentence.''squares'' &''potheads'' how will they learn to live 2gether? I don't want to be disobedient but won't allow my fellow human to be unreasonable towards me and that has been the case for generations. I have this feeling like it's been long enough and we are at a crosspoint in time it is now or do i hear my grandchildren asking howcome a natural medicine (however peoples use it) has been forbidden for so long.Squares trying to break my circle, i feel like rounding them up!

John Q. Sorry man, but I don't subscribe to that belief at all. Voices need to be heard, yes. But lighting up on the white house lawn is what got us here in the first place. Burnouts claiming to represent ALL pot smokers are responsible. The hippies waved joints around while giving Nixon the finger. Yeah, I'd have felt that way too, but that's not the way you get the attention of someone who's not sensitive to your side of the case. Marijuana culture is a kind of weird thing. I personally can't believe that the pot shops out in California are still using tie dye graphics and gigantic pot leaves for logos. If I were out there, and had a shop, I'd make it look as much like a REAL pharmacy as I could. I'd package the pot to make it look as professional as possible (in other words, I wouldn't put phrases like "kick ass shit" on my product). Can't these burnouts come up with something better. High Times have centerfolds of buds for gods sake. As long as potheads run around being "civilly disobedient" they will continue to make the task at hand even harder. The squares will listen to people they can at least somewhat relate to, not a bunch of fuckin grown up kids dressing the part of cheech and chong and talking like they dropped out in 2nd grade. So go somewhere else where they can't see you and be disobedient. Our job is hard enough as it is without having a bunch of fuckin freaks running around claiming to support the cause.

Hi folks, it's just a matter of the public fearing a plant thats being demonized by people who know they are wrong but will not admit that untill proven wrong so i would suggest that everybody grows that much green, so it will become impossible for authorities to control and it will totally mellow out the publics opinion as they will see everything just keeps on getting better and there is no danger from the green side, peace from far out@

What its going to take is pure all out civil disobedience. Masses of people gathering on the steps of the Capitol in Denver....and other states also, and smoking out. Displaying their herb, inviting the media, no violence...just civil disobedience.

Martin Luther King advocated civil disobedience, once upon a time not too long ago MLK had black people go into "white only" restaurants, at that time that was civil disobedience towards "unjust laws", they had every right to be served and break the law BECAUSE IT WAS AN UNJUST LAW !!!

As it is today, the marijuana laws are UNJUST. The laws made against marijuana were originally based on racism also, Harry J. Anslinger was a hardcore racist against blacks and hispanics and always repeated, in his words "marijuana caused colored men to desire white women".

The laws against minorities were evil back in the early to mid 1900's, just as marijuana laws are unjust and evil towards EVERYONE today. Blacks fought hard and sometimes broke the law to gain their rights, we who use marijuana should if necessary pattern ourselves after the black people who fought discrimination and Jim Crow Laws, by hardcore activism , such as pot festivals , rallies, gathering on the steps of City Hall and State Capitols displaying herb. This would work if the numbers would show.

Law enforcement needs to stop count to 10 and cool off. There are reasons why many people do not respect and trust the police and this is a prime example. People are really awaking to the realization that marijuana is not the monster that law enforcement portrayed it to be. If law enforcement cares to restore its public image and regain the trust of the population it has to respect the views of the majority of the people and not stand in there way. Marijuana is not evil and it has medicinal value. The police need to stop their jihad against marijuana today!

I have been listening to a lot of talk radio lately. late at night "Coast to Coast" is the name of the show, there was a guest on whoat the time I honestly thought was kinda reaching on the topic he was speaking on, but now seeing how there is still resistance to the legal operations for medical cannabis, I now truly believe that there are men in the highest places that have no soul! If they cant see that this is what is best for america and continue to oppose only because big oil is giving out money to those who do oppose it, it really makes me sad, and I hope that whatever we all choose as our higher power will send the right people to the right places, so we can get past all of this nonsense. Sorry for the long post, had alot on my mind. Peace.

silent majority? ignorant majority raping rights of minority as i would say.Democracy doesn't function if the majority is silent or shortsighted considering the needs of other people.

Eh, you're just over reacting. There have been no issues with dispensaries. The anti-pot activists say the dispensaries attract crime...the only crimes that have been commited are robberies. If that is the basis of stores being closed, then we should close all fast food resturants, liquor stores, 7-11s, and banks. Just relax, live and let live.

Silent Majority

Look for more of the same everywhere . The voting public know what its all about now . You have nothing but yourselves to blame .
