Man Claims He Sold Pot to Pay for Police Academy

Police hear all sorts of excuses after busting someone for selling pot. However, every now and again, they come across something truly original. Authorities claim this was the case in Orem, Utah when cops arrested a 20-year-old man who told them he was “dealing the drugs to save up for the police academy.”

According to an Orem police sergeant, “This is the first time I’ve heard of someone admitting it… Most drug dealers wouldn’t say they were trying to save up to become a cop.”

We shouldn’t dismiss the possibility that the 20-year-old was playing to his audience. Even if he was serious, I’m not sure how original the idea actually is – I’m pretty sure that was Bobcat Goldthwait’s plan in Police Academy 2.

However, if he ever does find himself in a position of authority as a law enforcement officer, hopefully he’ll take it easy on fellow marijuana enthusiasts.

At any rate, this might be an indication that the Orem, Utah police academy should lower its admission fee – you know, to cut down on crime…

This is an interesting one. First, we are not assured the man arrested was truly attempting to save for attendance at a police academy. It is funny though.

It is an attempt to make the police look bad, and any thinking individual knows: the man arrested is not a policeman.

I have a passion for the Fourth Amendment and it gets my goat, all the illegality that goes on each day in the "war on marijuana." This war is failed and is now nothing more than a cash cow to fill the prisons and keep the participants in a job.

I am quick to say I am not anti-cop or anti-law enforcement. I merely assert that it should be done properly.

God Bless the schmuck arrested; I feel safer knowing the streets (his house) are safe from the scourge of that "dangerous controlled substance," marijuana.

I do not use the stuff; I just hate to see the feeding frenzy that occurs from the so-called enforcement of these bombastic marijuana laws.

Listening to NPR today, where I heard this story, jokes were made about "bogarting" and that ilk of studio audience laughed. That means they know what it means and found the reference funny.

I pray that marijuana is legalized soon, for reasons we all know by now.
