EDDY LEPP

Pot Prophet or Profit for Pot?

Thu, Sep 15, 2005 12:09 pm

-
By Mary Ought Six

Eddy Lepp stands alone in the marijuana world. Admirers point to his 25-acre medical-pot farm in Northern California (the largest of its kind in the world), his title as the 2004 HIGH TIMES Freedom Fighter of the Year and his work as the spiritual leader of Eddy’s Medicinal Gardens and Multi-Denominational Ministry of Cannabis and Rastafari. Critics (including the federal government), however, paint an unflattering portrait of a flashy profiteer who is out for himself. Currently, the 53-year-old Vietnam vet in the center of this cannabis crossfire is out on bail, facing the possibility of four life sentences plus 40 years and over $17 million in fines. All for the love of ganja?

Located in the middle of Eddy Lepp’s massive house, its walls painted shades of hot pink and bedecked with various knickknacks from his travels, the master bedroom was once the throbbing heart of this enterprise—one of the only finished rooms in the entire 10,000-square-foot structure. Due to current court orders, Lepp is unable to smoke pot during our interview, so with tobacco cigarette in hand, he arranges some of his keepsakes before opening with a steady flow of curses against the DEA. “Goddamn sons-of-bitches....”

After this purging, he settles down and smiles wider than a Cheshire cat. “Do I speak directly into the microphone?”

As always, Lepp is pleased as punch to be interviewed. He enjoys being listened to, and respected, as the big-time ganja guru of an organization that was once home to thousands of medical-marijuana plants and from 15 to 30 nomadic cannabis cultivators at a time. In August 2004, the Feds came in and massacred 32,524 pot plants—a number that doesn’t include those that flew off the top of their open-air evidence wagons while being driven away down California Highway 20. Lepp was arrested that day, then quickly released on bail. The ministry tried to rebuild. But in February, the DEA, Lake County Narcotic Task Force and local law enforcement raided the garden again, seizing over 6,000 plants and taking Lepp into custody for over two months. He was again released on bail in April and came home not to a bustling ministry but to only his self-proclaimed “chosen family,” including his wife, Linda Senti, and his personal assistant. The ministry is now a quiet place. Lepp’s assistant spends his time writing press releases and rallying support; Senti tries to keep her husband focused on his legal case, which now combines the 2004 and 2005 raids, and on the couple’s financial problems: Eddy’s Medicinal Gardens, once estimated by the DEA to be home to over $80 million worth of marijuana, has gone flat broke.

When the FEDs ripped off "Eddy's Medicinal Gardens and Multi-Denominational Ministry of Cannabis and Restafari," they ripped me off too. This is not right. I can't afford Club Prices for my medicine; Rev. Eddy Lepp was the answer to my problems. Not only did Eddy get Fucked by the County of Lake and the State of California, all the patients that were expecting medicine at harvest time got Fucked along with him. I am really pissed off and not sure what to do now. My God bless Eddy and his Ministry.

Tampalight,

As they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. He may have started honorably or with every good intention, but now he's a drug dealer, using the medical marijuana lobby as a shield. He's a common drug dealer. I submit you're not as knowledgable about his activities as you think you are.

Oct 9 2005, 10:34 pm

this ones for concerned....how can u say he was a typical drug dealer trying to make money using our beliefs as a sheild!? YEA HE was makin money but thats not the point ...if you read about him he didnt start because of a fad he started becuase of nam to calm him down and what really got him into it was giving it to his dad because he was sick and made his dad take the medicine he wouldnt take thats how it all started was because of medincinal purposes not because of fuckin greed...for the people who made pot about money fuck you guys you are the ones who make the rest of us look bad, pots an herb no more its not a drug or a money mechanism keep it sacred respect it

Racefan and others,

That's the point duh! He made money! As for him being broke, the property's worth money, the house and the gold he so prowdly displays are all assests. If he's claiming poverty, it's of his own making and more likely than not, the result of creative book keeping. I dunno, ask him about the sale of a pound of marijuana to an undercover cop. According to the cops there was no mention of religion or medicine during the negotiation of the sale...The obvious goal of that sale is greed, pure and simple. No valiant cause there. Just an everyday drug dealer, using your beliefs as a shield for his crimes

eddy lepp has more class in his little finger than most of you haters have in your entire body. Yes Eddy made money buy renting plots for medicinal growers to grow on. he provided care for the plants as well as advice for those doing it themselves. When the farm was raided Eddie was the only one charged as well. None of the renters! So now the question is...how much is freedom worth? Eddy is taking all the rap for these plants that he wasn't technically even growing. They were other med patients'. As with every undertaking there are pros and cons. Most see the fact that Eddy "rented" these plots as a profiting business.Wrong! That he took advantage of med patients! Wrong! He's flat broke, barely able to pay his defense and everyone talks about his "profit"! Where is it? Why don't some of these med patients step up and take responsibility for "thier" plants to maybe help reduce the plant count against Eddy if all he did was take their money? Think about it. All he did was supply the land for "others" to grow on. They even took the final product off the land at harvest. Yet the only one taking the rap for all these plants is Eddy. That to me says..."HERO"! He didn't sit here at a site pissing and moaning about others, he chose to help as many med patients as possible by opening his land to them to grow on. Bravo, Eddy! Bravo!

Federal Law on Medical Marijuana
D.E.A. Jurisdiction and Due Process of Law
Part 1
Our Federal Courts and Department of Justice are operating under color of law1- and
systematically denying We The People of our right to the due process of law2.
Common Law3 crime requires a victim, with injuries or damages. Administrative Law, a form of
contract law for Executive Branch agencies and its registrants, does not require a victim but can call
for criminal penalties for registrants.
The following is from a motion that was presented last year to a Federal District Court in U.S. v.
Landa. The judge refused to rule, telling Attorney Allison Margolin to “take that to the Ninth Circuit”.
The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals refused to hear it, returning the issue to District Court. This case
involves prison time for a patient, and the judge will not rule! Since then many patients have filed the
same motion. This concerns Our most basic right: Our unalienable right to due process.

Defense attorney J David Nick writes:

I just want to emphasize that now that I have seen the discovery in the "asian medical marijuana mobster-mafia-moneylaundering-exctasy
selling gang case"(yeah right!) that I can assure all that the
federal government has done nothing but spewed lies about this very honorable group that was doing nothing except serving the medical marijuana needs of San Francisco. They have taken excerpts of conversations taken out of context in order to make them look like something else (knowing that its part of their little propaganda startegy). Don't fall for it! support them! This is part of the Government's war on medical marijuana, that is, to get stupid people who don't get informed to believe that there are "bad criminals"involved in medical marijuana dispensing and thus the only answer is to shut it all down-get informed and support these defendants.

In the discussion of meri, you address drugs of all kinds and alcohol- all kind of mind drugs, in the sense we consume them and our minds absorb them and we notice it first. You obviously have a problem and personally will be able to deal w/it, if you first change your language, in the sense of anylize what yr saying when you adress it as dope, because dope is heroine, I would like to speak to this;
You know, if I had some I might try to smoke it or something, being the fact its illegal. Meri is an herb we smoke, not a refined drug. In a great world all drugs would be legal and we'd have better communication skills, as it is we need to continue to educate everyone and take this offense away before it does away w/us

HHS Heat Campaign

Rescheduling marijuana is the most efficient way to ensure that patients everywhere have safe and legal access to the medicine that provides them relief.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) continues to be a significant roadblock for a variety of issues impacting medical marijuana patients. They block research, control funding resources that could be used for research, and control the process for rescheduling marijuana.
The goal of this Campaign is to turn up the heat to pressure HHS to take action to reschedule marijuana.

Marijuana Rescheduling
Americans for Safe Access is part of the Coalition for Rescheduling Cannabis, which has filed a formal rescheduling petition to HHS. We are now using grassroots efforts to pressure the HHS and Congress to reschedule.

Data Quality Act
Following the submission of the Formal Rescheduling Petition, ASA filed a Data Quality Act Petition, requesting that HHS correct information disseminated by the agency regarding the medical use of marijuana. The DQA requires federal agencies, like HHS, to ensure that the information it distributes is fair, objective and meets certain quality guidelines. Congress passed the DQA primarily in response to increased use of the Internet, to prevent the harm that can occur when government websites, which are easily and often accessed by the public, disseminate inaccurate information.

i think supercop just got owned!BankDuds you do have a good point. but i think that cannabis isnt a drug it is not alterd in any way to beable to get its effects, unlike coke, herion and xtc. It dosent go to a lab to be made. It just grows right out of the ground and isnt alterd in anyway.

BankDuds

Sep 26 2005, 2:39 am

The reason why marijuana is illegal is because it is a drug. I smoke everyday and love buds just as much as the next stoner but it's a drug. Now I see what some people say, "It's a plant, not a drug." Yeah, but the same people that sell coke, extacy and heroin and shit sell weed. And it's not the police's fault if they arrest you, they're just enforcing the laws that the legislature passed. Now I agree that you shouldn't be put in prison for marijuana use. But in my opinion, (like it matters)if marijuana is that big of a part of your life then go move to the Netherlands or Canada. Im not saying thats a bad thing. But too many people talk and do nothing. Talk is cheap. And like Token Tom said "We need full support or else their is no hope for us." And I honeslty, as much as I would like it to happen, don't see that happening anytime soon. I'll admit I'm lazy, but thats why I have aspiriations to leave this country. I don't want to have to worry about cops or any law enforcement when I'm out trying to smoke a blunt. I know it's just babling but hey, it's my opinion. Be easy, -1-

they keep it illegal because it is the only thing that keeps the justice system alive. They need to legalize it for one reason and one reason only...taxes. We are in an economic crisis, we are in debt out the ass and we spend billions jailing non violent marijuana offenders. I smoked in high school, but stopped for a few years. I started again about a years or so ago, and can appreciate the gift that marijuana is. At 24 though it is not a matter of if , it is when I get pinched. I do not understand though how it works. If I get pinched than that is it..I am guilty, I smoke marijuana, that is the only illegal thing I do...I won't even speed or switch lanes without a signal. Laws are meant to protect people and keep them safe. The marijuana tax act does nothing but oppress the people and destroy families. You would think that with all the people who smoke we could get something done, but we all sit back and watch....until it happens to us. We need to get off our asses and demand that the government lift its trivial sanctions on marijuana and free up our jails for violent and real drug offenders. Rolling Stone reported of some 10,000+ meth labs in the US...tell the f-ing feds to take their heads out of their asses and spend their money busting those evil and deadly places....give us our buds...were gonna get i anyway...ironic thing is I've been dry for two days lol....

This country was founded with marijuana as a main export and import crop. The Constitution was written on Hemp paper. George Washington himself cultivated Marijuana on his farm. Thomas Jefferson as well. How did something that had such a promising future in this country all of the sudden become public enemy #1? Corruption, money, greed are all factors. The only way to make changes is for those who are in-the-closet smokers to come out of the shadows and show their support for the cause. We need martyr's both politically and socially. We need the pot-smoking community to fight for it. We need those in the entertainment industry to start campaigning for marijuana reform. We need full support or else their is no hope for us. We will all be encarcerated and the Peace and Love ideal that marijuana should promote will be lost.

Eddie broke? No power players like Sorros providing funds? No free publicity shots with Woody Harrelson? No big benefit concerts. Notice celebrities are steering clear of this. I suspect that is intentional. They know something that so far HT has seen fit to overlook! Weed may need a martyr, but Eddie ain't it.

as long as pot is outlawed, only outlaws will cultivate pot.. face it folks,as long as 'big buisness' is running the show, it will never be legalized..so it's time to harden up,be smart and be safe and remember that rats must be dealt with accordingly.

Eddy Lepp is a very kind Man. He was the first Person to buy our CD when we met Him at the Seattle HempFest in 2004. We missed Him out there this year. We wish the dea and many other police departments across the country would put all of their efforts into catching sex offenders. We want to know why the safety of our Children isn't the first priority of the police? Marijuana is not a problem! Maybe so many of the politicians who run these World governments are pedophiles themselves. The Government is suppose to be OF THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE, AND BY THE PEOPLE! A lot of the People we know Smoke Weed!

This is to everyone who hates on pot and those who
smoke it. Get the hell of our site. We're no lazier than you ass. I can't speak for everyone, but I work fifty hours a week, I go to school full time, and I work out at the gym like three to four days a week. So if I go against everything you thought about potheads, then get over it. We are everywhere.

So from what i read of the story, I get that this man was legally growing medicinal marijuana and the feds seize his shit? Well if that's true, it just goes to show how fucked up the gov't is...well, shit will change soon, I'd say the most 10 years..

Just a lil' before the times Brother! And of coarse there would've been a pay off, that shit isn't free! I don't see how he can get through this unless he can get Canada to take him and his Family. I'd love to have a team of Cultivators at my disposal.
