HIGH TIMES on Drugs in Sports

Tue, Feb 10, 2009 2:35 pm

Well, here is some irony for you.

A drug guy, writing a blog about how wrong it is to do drugs.

I should qualify that statement. My arguement here is to all those who say, "So what, put all the 'roid users in the Baseball Hall of Fame - they're still great players."

Sorry, not quite. These guys are no greater than Hank Aaorn, Babe Ruth or Mickey Mantle. You want to put them in the HOF, here's how you do it - you make a Cheater's Wing.

It stands to reason that we can recognize these guys for a few things at least. First off, they reached a pinnacle fitness of the human form to the extent they broke every hallowed record in the game. And second, they cheated. Both merit recognition.

Sure, they didn't technically cheat - I mean, there were no rules before 2004 banning performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). So all the more reason they can be on disply in Cooperstown. But they cheated our past, the history of the game and the forefathers. All those Legends that came before them were cheated. The fans who believed got cheated. And, sadly, they themselves were the worst victums. Afterall, cheating yourself hurts more than getting cheated on.

So give them a Wing at the Hall of Fame. The Cheaters' Wing.

Talk about a deterant. Or an incentive. Either way, it's fair. Cheat, break the cheaters' records and you're in. But you're also known forever as a Cheater.

Or, don't cheat, play well and maye you get in, maybe you don't. And then again, maybe you get in and you become the best player ever. Maybe you beat the Babe and break Aaron's all-time record. Hey, maybe you even beat the Cheaters' records! Oh, and you're never called a cheater and have the undying respect of your fans, the Legends, the game and, most importantly - yourself.

And so what about Michael "the Bonghitter" Phelps. That one is easy. Tell your kids, when they win 8 gold medals in the Olympics they can do any drugs they want. That should keep them busy for a few years.

Problems solved, Nico out.

The recent media on the phelps bong photo and a-rod roid use has had my frustration at a all time high because this situation somewhat parallels my life. allow me to explain i am a very athletic person and i have trained in boxing, jiu jitsu and sambo. the one thing that prevents me from having a career is my medicinal use of cannabis on a daily basis. there are fighters that i have known and trained with who are fighting professionally who have used HGH and other performance altering substances, and guess what a great majority of athletes do because now a days its easier to hide. a guy will do a cycle or 2 then take a substance that will flush it so it wont be found on a drug test. don't for 1 second think that its a minority of fighters like shawn sherk, chances are your favourite mma fighter has done a cycle or 2 at least once in their career. this is somewhat unrelated but some advice for my fellow Canadians. if you are thinking of trying to obtain medical marijuana in this country and you do not suffer from a illness that has a high chance of killing you like aids or cancer DO NOT try to obtain a mm card. you may be unaware of this but even though we do have legal medical marijuana in this country it is only with great hipocracy. the way it works is the doctor has to basically put their medical liscence on the line for you to have it and what doctor would do that? the insurance companies who insure medical professionals tell them not to perscribe it for that very reason. there is no incentive for doctors to do this as well, for example if a doctor gives alot of perscriptions for a new pharmaceutical drug, said doctor would be given a free trip to a conference held by that pharmaceutical company and these "conferences" are really just a free vacation as their are most often held in carribean countries and the actual conference is only a half hour long out of the whole week long vacation that is of no expense to the doctor. now before someone tries to poke holes in this rather long comment that i have posted, the facts of what i have said regarding the medical issue came straight from a medical professionals mouth and i am not making it up. or before someone tries to stereotype because of the lack of compisition or spelling, i am college educated and to be honest its a comment on high times. it is kind of pointless to go through and do a good job on this post, not exactly worth my time. but just to recap my medical use of marijuana prevents me from a career in mma, a career as a rcmp officer despite the fact that i have had a doctor tell me that according to medical journals the use of cannabis has proven to be benifical to someone with my condition however he simply cannot do it because of the scrutiny that he would face. canadian marijuana users wake up and realize that our country is not what it likes to portray itself as with regards to marijuana use. bill c3 which is going through the channels to become a law proposes mandatory sentencing for marijuana. mandatory jail sentences for growing as little as 1 plant. i urge anyone to call justice minister rob nicholson (613) 992-4621 and let him know your personally feeling regarding this ridiculous bill.

I first saw Mark Mcguire in '88 or'89. He was a big lanky dude that you could tell was strong, a good ball player body, and somebody you wouldn't want to fuck with because of his reach and "snap". When he got on steroids he was not the same person. He was CYBOIRG. If he would have turned pro boxer Mike Tyson would have taken a back seat, he was that big. Think of how many minor leaugers would have made it to "The Show" with a 5

I had a good comment but it got erased. Screw it.
