Medical Pot Now Legal in D.C.

Medical marijuana became legal in the District of Columbia earlier this week when the U.S. Congress decided not to address a bill passed by the Washington D.C. City Council.

Up to eight dispensaries can be set up in the city to treat patients with illnesses such as HIV/AIDS and Cancer. The mayor and the city's department of health must now set up guidelines on licensing dispensaries, which cannot be placed within 300 feet of a school.

Growers are limited to 95 plants per location and sales of medical marijuana will come with a 6% tax. It may still be a while yet before dispensaries can be opened, since zoning issues will arise after licenses are approved.

However, qwertys facts are a bit garbled. The Amtrak was in a head-on collision with a Conrail freight locomotive which was not supposed to be on that track. It was the Conrail crew that were smoking weed and tested positive for it later. The Amtrak operator, who had no drugs in his system, was among the 16 people that died.

Pot use usually stops violent people from being violent. pot use has many medicinal and therapeutic qualities and that can be proven by the thousands of credible scientific experiments. as for the people u claim died as a result of pot use, it wasn't the weeds effect that caused those deaths, it was the individuals irresponsibility that caused those deaths. The lady who crashed her car in oncoming traffic and her and her kids died, was drunk, and the thc that showed up in her system could have been smoked a month before the crash. the lady who crashed the train was a retard, she should of never been allowed to be in control of a train. if these few farfetched stories are what your basing your case on that pot is dangerous, you have also realize that 99.999999% of people who smoke pot do not die as a result of their pot use. This is just terrible. What are the members of Congress thinking? Legalizing will only lead to increase of use in not only this drug but harder drugs as well since marijuana has long known to lead to harder drug use. There will be an influx of addicts who will use the "medical marijuana" excuse to obtain their dope and carry on with their addiction. And on top of that, the legalization will certainly increase the crime rate on an already crime-ridden Washington DC. Health care costs will definitely skyrocket due to the influx of addicts with drug-related health issues crowding the hospitals and emergency rooms. Workplace absenteeism will also be on the rise due to addicts compulsive need to get high, as well as workplace accidents, resulting in billions of dollars in lost productivity going down the drain.

Heres hoping that the new law will be struck down by the Feds - for the good of the people who live clean and correct lives.
