Medical Pot Now Legal in D.C.

Medical marijuana became legal in the District of Columbia earlier this week when the U.S. Congress decided not to address a bill passed by the Washington D.C. City Council.
Up to eight dispensaries can be set up in the city to treat patients with illnesses such as HIV/AIDS and Cancer. The mayor and the city's department of health must now set up guidelines on licensing dispensaries, which cannot be placed within 300 feet of a school.
Growers are limited to 95 plants per location and sales of medical marijuana will come with a 6% tax. It may still be a while yet before dispensaries can be opened, since zoning issues will arise after licenses are approved.

Thanks for those useful articles and setting me straight on what happened, but the overall point Im hitting home is that marijuana is indeed dangerous and does cause death. Since legal drugs like alcohol and tobacco cause death and damage, does America really need to have one more drug (marijuana) legalized?

Yes marijuana IS addictive. Why do you think there are "daily users"? And why do you think there are rehabilitation centers for people who use pot? Actually,I think rehabilitation is not the answer for pot addicts. The proper way to handle them is incarceration.
You guys keep claiming that marijuana hasnt killed anyone. Tell that to the poor victims who perished in that Amtrak train accident years ago in which the train operator had admitted to smoking pot before getting behind the controls. Or tell that to those poor eight children who were killed when their mother, sky-high on dope, drove the family van off the road and down an embankment. Or tell that to that boy in Britain who died, with the coroners ruling on the cause of death being acute cannabis poisoning.
And yes, marijuana does breed crime. Think about the poor old lady thats getting beaten and robbed for drug money the next time you two decide to take that little illegal puff of marijuana.
