2-Alarm Fire Guts Seattle’s First Legal, Recreational Marijuana-Grow Operation

Firefighters were called to the scene of a 2-alarm fire Wednesday morning at Sea of Green Farms, a legal marijuana farm in Seattle’s Interbay neighborhood.

According to the Seattle Times, the blaze began in one of the grow rooms after an electrical malfunction and took responders about an hour to “knock it down.”

The firefighters wore standard masks, so marijuana fumes were not an issue.

“The building is ventilated upward, so all the smoke went up in the air,” Kyle Moore, Seattle Fire Department spokesman, explained to the Seattle Times.

While there were no injuries, the New York Daily News reported that the flames destroyed about 3,000 pot plants and caused approximately $250,000 in damages.
