I'm a forty-nine year old woman in Massachusetts who got stopped for speeding and then got caught with a ten-dollar bag of weed in my pocket. They searched me and gave me a Breathalyzer test, which I passed.
I have no criminal record, however, I don't have a lot of money, so I got a court appointed attorney. This guy was a real head case, wearing a Pink Floyd tie and showing off his new video camera in the courtroom.
In the end, he assured me I got a really great deal. I ended up with a year of probation, drug and alcohol tests, work and school visits and the usual paying seventy bucks a month.
This happened in a small town court in Gardner, Massachusetts. Since I live in Worcester, they put me on probation there. Worcester is a big city. When I came in to see the probation officer, she couldn't believe the sentence, as I was a first time offender. She felt it was ridiculous.
But anyway, the whole stupid result still stands. Certain people have suggested that I sue the attorney (he actually told me in the hallway of the courtroom that pot should be legal…).
I give up!
