The 12th-Annual HIGH TIMES Party & Doobie Awards @ SXSW will take place on March 16, from high noon to 6 pm, at Redrum (401 Sabine St., btw. E. 4 & E. 5 Sts. – one block from the Convention Center) in Austin, Texas.
This year’s party will include the 2007 HIGH TIMES Doobie Awards celebrating the stoniest music of the last year. Awards will be given in 10 categories: Band of the Year, Best Pot Song, Best Reggae Artist, Best Rock Band, Best Hip-Hop Artist, Best Jam-Band, and Best Fest, as well as several local awards for Best Austin Band and Best Austin Radio Station. In addition, Willie Nelson will receive a Lifetime Achievement Doobie Award.
Awards will be announced throughout the day. The band lineup is:
Joseph Israel – roots-reggae New Door Records/Ume recording artist from Fayetteville, Arkansas
Rocky Dawuni - Afrobeat/reggae star from Ghana, seen on Weeds (performing with special guest percussionist Leon Mobley from Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals)
White Ghost Shivers – Austin octet specializing in blues, Texas swing, ragtime and jazz, voted "Best None of the Above Band" at the 2006 Austin Music Awards
Hellapeno – hard-rockers from Austin featuring lead singer Dave Derrick, formerly with Pariah
Flaming Fire – experimental psych-rock band from Brooklyn, NY featuring HIGH TIMES managing editor Natasha Lewin
Carolyn Wonderland - Austin-based country-rock singer-songwriter
The event is free of charge to all SXSW badge holders. Tickets will be sold for $10 at the door. No advance sales!
