Last month the LA City Council [link|http://hightimes.com/news/mike_hughes/6155|passed an ordinance] that would set a dispensary cap and enforce an ultra-restrictive buffer zone with which many of the city’s medical marijuana dispensaries would not comply. That ordinance has not yet taken effect. Nonetheless, city prosecutors are now actively going after Los Angeles dispensaries. The city is now suing three collectives to force them to stop selling medical marijuana. Additionally, the city attorney’s office has told 18 landlords to evict dispensaries renting their property for breaking the law.
The owner of one of the dispensaries being sued by the city has been arrested and [link|http://www.mercurynews.com/news/ci_14448551|faces 24 counts] including money laundering and illegal marijuana sales. According to LATimes.com, Jeffery Joseph’s Organica has been raided previously but the owner was attempting to comply with the city’s ordinance.
In the letters sent to landlords, the city attorney’s office states that it has the right to evict the medical marijuana dispensaries if the landlords are unwilling to do so.
