We have been a little squinty-eyed while riding our bikes around town, but we have never been so ripped that it caused us to steer our two-wheeled torpedo right into a cop. And even if we did, we damn sure wouldn’t offer the officer any of our weed.
Unfortunately, Jerrald Edwards of Athens, Tennessee wasn’t thinking very clearly earlier this week when he crashed his bicycle into a McMinn County Sherriff’s deputy. Accidents are bound to happen, but the officer noticed that Edwards appeared to be more than slightly intoxicated: his eyes were glassed over and he was slurring his speech.
That’s when the deputy decided it was time to conduct a field sobriety test, which Edwards failed miserably. To make things worse, after he admitted to being drunk, the man attempted to avoid the impending cuff-and-stuff by asking the officer if she wanted to smoke some weed with him.
As flattered as the officer was that the belligerent biker wanted to share his grass stash with her, she decided to arrest him instead. Interestingly, even if the officer would have obliged the man’s offer, there is nothing in the arrest report to suggest he even had any marijuana in his possession. He wasn’t charged with possession.
However, Edwards was charged with public intoxication and is currently being held on a $500 bond.
The moral here? Don't offer cops weed. Even if you don't have any.
