The Regulate, Control and Tax Cannabis Act of 2010 is expected to officially qualify for the state ballot this November, with backers having gathered almost 700,000 signatures, much more than the nearly 434,000 needed.

Tax Cannabis 2010 would legalize the consumption of cannabis for all adults over 21 in California by allowing up to one once of marijuana to be possessed, while also allowing for limited personal cultivation. The sale of marijuana, however, would be up to local jurisdictions to decide on.

Led by Richard Lee, the man behind Oaksterdam University, the Tax Cannabis 2010 campaign will be focused on a public education push across the state, targeting their message to fit the needs and concerns of different kinds of voters.

A [link|http://www.canorml.org/news/fieldpoll.html|poll] last April found that 56% supported legalization, while internal polling by Tax Cannabis around the same time found 44% support among likely California voters in non-presidential elections. Another internal poll last August found 52% support by likely November 2010 voters.
