• Nederland, Colorado passed a ballot measure Tuesday that removed all penalties for adult marijuana possession. With 54 percent of voters supporting the initiative, Nederland became the third Colorado locality to legalize pot (Denver and Breckenridge are the other two). Oh yeah, also, the incumbent Mayor who openly criticized the measure and called it “foolish” was voted out of office. And, if you need further evidence that Colorado is committed to the kind, a recent poll found that 50 percent of Colorado voters support legalizing pot and regulating it like alcohol.

• The city of Fruita apparently has become the first city in the state of Colorado to place a tax on medical marijuana. Well, technically, Fruita is the first city in Colorado to add a tax to medical marijuana, which is already subject to a three percent sales tax in most cities in Colorado. The additional five percent sales tax was unofficially approved by 60 percent of Fruita voters. Those Fruita voters were not deterred by the fact that Fruita currently doesn’t have any medical cannabis dispensaries.
