With an irresistible laid-back flow and penchant for Mary Jane-laced wordplay, Harlem rapper Smoke DZA has become a leader of rap's next generation. The 2012 HIGH TIMES Doobie Award winner for “Best Hip-Hop Artist” (and self-proclaimed “Kushed God”) has partnered with HIGH TIMES Records and Cinematic Music Group for the new album Rugby Thompson, which hits stores everywhere today (6/19).
Produced by rising hitmaker Harry Fraud, Rugby Thompson is some of Smoke DZA's most impressive work to date. Although it features all-star guests like Action Bronson, Sean Price, Schoolboy Q, Curren$y, Domo Genesis, and more, the album succeeds because of the chemistry between Smoke DZA and Harry Fraud.
“It's not an 'inbox album,” explains DZA. “All the concepts were really done as a team. The entire album was created in the lab by Harry and myself.”
The duo will be both judging and performing at the 2012 HIGH TIMES Medical Cannabis Cup in Richmond, CA on June 24 – get info and tickets here: medcancup.com.
When they do get in the studio together, herbal inspiration is a must. In this exclusive video clip, DZA and Harry explain some of their weed-smoking habits and preferences, showing off their qualifications to serve as Cannabis Cup judges.
