CONCERT REVIEW: Perpetual Groove @ Neighborhood Theatre – Charlotte, North Carolina
Tue Jan 8, 2008
By Ric Hersh
Perpetual Groove – P Groove to fans – was formed back in 2001. The quartet, now based out of Athens, GA, has been a highlight for many on the jam festival circuit in recent years. Since 2003, P Groove has released three albums, including their 2007 release, LIVELOVEDIE. The band masterfully combines rock music with ambient jams, adding finely orchestrated and often comedic covers to live shows for good measure.
For New Year’s Eve 2007 P Groove decided to move up the East Coast from their home base in Georgia to play the Neighborhood Theatre in Charlotte, North Carolina. The theatre partnered with a local party-liner to provide shuttle service to the venue from several area hotels. Despite a perplexing lack of champagne, the Neighborhood Theatre proved a top rate performance space with excellent acoustics (and, to make up for the champagne shortage, a tremendous selection of beer.)

FESTIVAL REVIEW: The Echo Project – Atlanta, Georgia
Mon Oct 22, 2007
By Ric Hersh and Zac Bardou
The Echo Project. The name suggests the sonic reverberations, ethereal, cacophonic and otherwise, of any weekend camp and dance, but in the case of this aptly named, first-year Georgia freak-fest, the implications are so much greater than that.
With the celebration that ensued last Thursday afternoon, Meat Camp Productions and its partners, Sustainable Waves, Rivers Alive, Clean Vibes and many others, kicked off a ten-year ecological endeavor to raise awareness of environmental issues and spark the mobilization of the masses against wastefulness and irresponsibility.
Nearly 10,000 concert-goers descended upon 350-acre Bouckaert Farm, south of Atlanta, with a tent city in tow and ready rock, roll, shuffle, shimmy and shake all weekend long. The Echo Project’s diverse line-up augmented a slate of some of the nation’s finest touring acts with a myriad of Georgia-germinated talent, weaving a …READ MOREtags: 1 « add a comment

Langerado Music Festival began five years ago when Mark Brown and Ethan Schwartz teamed up to bring an eclectic music fest to southern Florida. Not to disparage the past few years, but 2007’s festival was epic. The weather, vibe, art (LEBO added wonderful artwork to the grounds), and ambience alone would have made this experience enjoyable. However, on top of all that, the festival boasted a tremendous lineup of some of the most sought-after live acts around.
The party started Thursday night (March 8th). With the festival proper set to kick off the following day, there were several late night shows in the surrounding area vying for my attention. Trey was the hot ticket but I had a feeling that Tea Leaf Green and New Monsoon at the Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale would be the hot show.
TLG opened the show and brought the space funk. These guys are a relatively newer band on the scene but are absolute pros on stage. …READ MOREtags: 3 « add a comment
