I have read interviews and watched most interviews with Phil Anselmo. He is enigmatic and people freeze when he speaks. He controls a room with his calmness and demeanor. Phil is a dynamic speaker, he captures your attention because of his emotion, be it rambling rants but when he stays on track and focuses, he controls anything he wishes. Yes, he is a control freak to the very definition. That could have something to do with his and Vinnie and their band manager Rita's relationship issues. Rita banned Phil from Darrell funeral and wake as Phil sat in a hotel room only minutes away from the funeral. Rita was also Dimes girlfriend and I believe she meant well but she drove a wedge between the Abbotts and Phil. It happens, it's part of life. Control freaks will destroy anything to get their way, relationships, families, friendships and yes even profitable music careers or bands. I have seen that Rita has sent an olive branch to Phil recently, I truly believe she is doing this because of the Cowboys from Hell 20th anniversary release and now for the upcoming 20th anniversary of Vulgar display of power. My theory is that you can't truly be profItable or have a true re release
Of Pantera music or videos without Phil Anselmo involved. I find it odd that Rita was the most outspoken person in the Abbot camp about "that dude", that dude is what Vince calls Phil, he won't refer to Phil by name in interviews and demands no questions about that dude in interviews. Phil is largely too blame for his own problems but he has shown regret and remorse for his actions. Vinnie still is holding a grudge towards Phil. Phil had as much to do with Dimes death as Jodie Foster has to do with the shooting of President Ronald Reagan. Vinnie comes off as a greedy person, Dime just appeared to follow Rita and Vinnies lead during the end of Pantera. I believe Vinnie will eventually make amends with Phil if he sees it as a profitable venture. Phil seems to be slowly becoming what he was years ago, the most influential metal frontman the world has ever seen. A sober Phil is a confidence building machine in motion.

Vin is a total fake..I worked with Pantera for 3 yrs and Phil and Dime were the ones that made it happen..Phil wrote 90% of the lyrics and changed the direction of the band which in result changed heavy metal forever..in a good way..Phil Core

Screw philsophery, hell folks forget and they always do whenever someone dies they try to make them out as saints per se, that the Abbots talked crazy aobut him over the years and before and after Dime died, as well as him. Not to say sh*t cause I know he's no longer here to defend himself but still it is what it is. They ALL have faults.

Philoserphy, man what have you ever done? pantera is metal. when far beyond driven came out, my whole world changed. phil was a part of that, he was also one of dimebags best friends...... to lose someone that close to you can really hurt. if vincent and phil have issues, thats their business. where would we all be without the cowboys from hell?

Awesome interview with some very candid replies. It's good to hear truths about Rex, the Superjoint situation and also hear some stories of friends and times gone by.

Like all metal bands they all needed each others talent to make Pantera what it was. They all need to swallow their pride and forgive and forget. I have come to ignore Vinnie's ignorant display of hatred. He needs Phil and Phil needs him. They both lost a brother in Dime.

Im glad someone called out the drummer Joe Fazzio, every time Superjoint Ritual is brought up he tip toes around it, but everyone knew what the deal was.

Everyone loves to trash phil! No one likes to believe maybe the abbott family is just as responsible in this whole situation. Phil is one of the most talented frontman of all time period. Pantera would have been nothing without him. Ill add that everyone in that band was the most talented musicians anyone can compare, but look at phil now, just as great as he always has been. Down is an outstanding band, what happened to the other guys? Went on to try and signify thier existance in other bands. They are bitter because they know they were nothing without him.

Phil is a loser! He believes his own shit and then eats it and acts like his breath don't stink cuz he's a rock star. He is fucking rude to Vince and the Abbot family with his lame comments. Learned nothing new from this interview.
