May 27 2011, 3:45 pm

I have a question for anyone out there who can tell me why the plant Im growing Nevills haze. I'm in the flowering stage and I do not know why the plants has no smell to it whatsoever even if you rub the stem between the thumb and fore finger. It has buds but no resin. I started the flowering cycle on 4/23/11. Is this common because other plants in the past has always had a strong smell.

I have a new problem with my soil, I have grown many very good plants over the years but this is new to me. all my GARDEN plants are grown indoors and under floresent grow lights with a fan to cool, but this year all the soil now has what looks like moldy hair on it. the soil is reg. panting soil mixed with white sand at 3 parts to 1 part respectively. I do not water unless the top of the soil is dry to touch. Can anyone tell me what is wrong? bul_moose1@yahoo.com

I never thought I would attempt my own grow,I had recently found a pale small seed in a bag of Blueberry Haze, didnt think it would do anything b/c it didnt look like any other seeds ive previously seen, regardless it sprouted in a damp face rag and I mixed a 50/50 ratio of some organic soil I had in a tomato garden last year and the rest was a real dark mix I got out of my compost pile,I have a 2' flourecent plant light and a 65watt reflective plant light with a small fan for cooling. The plant shot up to 12" in one week and became top heavy so I got a larger 10" teracotta pot and did the same soil mix as before and replanted it up to the first(pod leaves as i call them) and left it outside in full sunlight for a week before moving it back inside, the plant is now about 6" tall and on a sun up sun down schedule, like I said the plant is 6" tall and now my new top growth has a small ball in it with several white hairs coming out of it. With this being my first grow and not having any experience under my belt I dont know exactly know whats going on here,is this good or bad. I've been told that this is how colas form but i'm just taking the word of fellow smokers who "think" they have the answers but have the same grow experience as me. Can you help me out?

How do you tell the differnce between males and female plants which are about 2 feet tall grown indoors under 2 led ufo lights which are on 24/7. Do males have only 3 leaves...is this true or not? Do I need to remove the male plants from room or not? There in 1 gallon pots with mir-gro potting soil and i water them about 2 times a week. We were using tap water but now collect rain water and use. Should i start cutting the lights off at night or leave the led lights on 24/7. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks BB

This is my first time growing and my plants are in the early stages of budding where the little white stems are poking out the new buds. I am having a huge problem with spider mites(little bugs that lay black eggs under the leaf and white little bugs in spider webs.)I have tried a few different sprays but they just keep coming back. Also I am wondering how long until I can start drying them. I am groing indoors and in soil. Please any good advice will be well recieved.

Hello Mr. Danko,
My name is Jay I am growing plants I have been for a couple years now being I have many medical problems and do not like the pills for pain when this beautiful plant does just the same without nearly as many chemicals being put into my body. Anyway I had just switched to hydroponics and for the most part it is working wonders on my plants but 3 of them are not doing good my purple urkal is turning a very light green. The second a plant known as knock out got burned up on accident my fault and the question on that one can I cut off some of the fried fan leaves being there is new growth growing in and they are just taking up light. My third plant is also a knock out and it is doing very well just it was the first one to go into budding while she was still under my 400watt MH and on an 18/6 light schedule and was wondering what could cause that.
My set up is a 6-foot tall by 4x4 room with sufficient airflow a consistent temperature of 73 or 74 degrees during the day and 63-65 degrees at night. I have a 400watt MH for veg. and a 400watt HPS for bud. I am using a 10-20-10 water-soluble plant food with micronutrients. I guess my last question is what should I use now that I am in budding? If you could email me at jrjay420@yahoo.com I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time and help.

Need Help Getting Started on Medical Grow

I been doing research and read a lot but I can't seem to get the most important answers. The Hydro shop has instructed me to start growing in soil and then move to hydro. My wife and I can Grow up to 24 plants at a time.I think I have a good understanding of equipment needed just not shure on space and don't want to go to big. My spare room is 8ft long, 6ft wide, and 6.8ft height. We have limited funds and are ill so building my own room is out of the question.

I am thinking 2 grow tents one for vege and one for flowering, with 8 plants flowering, 8 plants vege, 8 plants cloning am I Right?

Second Question, can a grow tent be used for soil or is it strictly for hydro?

Third, What size tents do I need to buy for the number of plants and each stage of plants for best yield. What size would work height-lenght-width?

Fourth, what size lights do I need 1000wt or 600wt 400wt bulbs? I plan to use a vent hood but am concerned that I will still fry my plants later in flowering stage as they reach 4ft or so and keep in mind I have a 6.8ft ceiling.

Fifth, Am I correct in thinking that after a few soil grows switching to hydro I will be able to re-use most of my equipment ex. tents, lights, fans, ductwork, timers, kind of a two-for-1. Any help or critcism will be greatly appreciated and thank you so much. tommy

have mother plants and clones, some 60% indica and 40% sativa and some 80%/20%. Have been out for 2 1/2 weeks and began flowering. After puting them out the weather got rain, cool, windy, with lots of cloud cover. Anything full sativa did not start flowering,But anything with indica in it has began to flower. Mothers were approx. 5 months of age. Will this flowering reverse or finish? What should I do?

I have a question. I have a 3'x7' grow space in my bedroom, with a 1000 watt HPS lamp. A lot of my plants are starting to turn yellow and some of the leaves are curling up. I diagnosed as a nitrogen defiency, but am starting to think this is wrong. I use General Organics Biothrive Grow and Bloom, with Biobud through flowering. I was wanting to know if these are good chemicals to use? Are they 100% organic? Is it possible for these chemicals to burn my plants? I am also a regular tobacco user and I was wondering if the smoke from tobacco will harm my plants?

danny,i recently got my medical marijuana card and am attempting to grow.i live on the big isle of hawaii.the weather rocks year round but due to the abundance of rainfall,we set our plants out in the a.m and bring them in under lights at night, and on rainy days.so far,we have them in 5 gal containers.we have 2 that are budding nicely however,we will be lucky to yield an ounce.how do i grow both in and out?the electric costs are too high in hawaii to run lights 24/7!!!i am only looking to produce enough for us,none for sale, but as i have chronic pain as does my husband,we go through an ounce a week(thats being chintzy and only smoking two or three times a day.).so how do we do this?all info is for either inside or out not both.how do we do this ?another reason for bringing in the plants at night and when we are gone is due to thieves.please help!!!is there books that combine both growing techniques?i have no money to invest in hydrponics and other things.as i said before, the power costs are insane here in hawaii and are cost prohibitive.thanks to any and all for advice!!

Last year i got busted growing large quantities of dope. I'm currently using an aeroponics system and I'm looking for a breed of marijuana that will thrive in the system. I use B.C. Hydroponic Nutrients.

In the state if Michigan growing 19 plants is a misdemeanor and 20 is a felony. Because i can only grow 19 plants, harvesting 2 plants every three weeks, I want a breed of marijuana that is extremely potent, fruity, and uplifting but packs lots of weight. Which strain do you recommend?

These are the breeds I am considering: Blackberry, Mazar, Chronic, White Russian, Fucking Incredible, Romulan, Big Bud, and Amsterdam Flame. I am open-minded though. If you have any better sugestions I would appreciate it! Thanks!

Hi, I'm a new grower and in my closet I had three breeds of plants. During the flowering stage to sex them (I grew them from seeds) I noticed I had a hermathodite so I pulled it asap!! I have come to notice that every plant in the closet now has seeds along with bud. So are the clones I cut from these plants prior to sexing no good? I have them growing in a seperate chamber underneath the closet. Also, are all these seeds guaranteed females or could they go both ways?

In the February issue, you cautioned "Curtis in Missouri" NOT to try breeding his own strains. Wow! THAT'S in the spirit of research, learning and development!

What if you'd advised a young, "budding" Soma, as well as all those inspired to greatness, to do the same? What cherished strains might we never have enjoyed? Personally, I don't thing discouraging discovery in such endeavors is a good path... we all learn through our failures, even more than we learn by our successes!

Congrats Danny. I was wondering, is there a safe way to purchase seeds from a seed bank? Europe, Canada, or in the States. I live in Illinois, US, and would like to choose some primo. I suffer from an extreme case of Meniere's Disease (inner ear problems), and this does not qualify for a medical card. I am so tired of listening to 'it's dank' and 'got some hydro'... They really don't know what it is, but feel the need to church it up. I would love to grow something special, 'commercial garbage' is not worth my time and effort. Here is a thanks in advance.

This is my first grow, I have purchaced a grow box. I have a question about TDS. I am following a nutrient formula. For exsample the formula for week one shows a max ppm of 210. The tap water alone is 110. After the water is ph balanced it reads 230 ppm. When I ad the small amount of grow solution it brings the ppm to 310. Do I subtract 230 from 310 to get the ppm.

Nov 1 2009, 5:24 pm

To answer your quetion Mudd, yes male plants can help create seeds that can procue both male or female plants. There are several things that one can do to 'help' seeds turn into female plants vs. males though it is not foolproof. Flowering them at a slightly lower light time (around 14hrs instead of 18+) and providing them with certain spectrum ranges of lighting ( I believe blue, but someone correct me if I'm mistaken ) can also help promote female plants. Stress such as light/water/ph etc can all play a role as well. There are also feminized seeds which will produce female plants that have been gred by man but work pretty well. I prefer using clones myself, as you are pretty much guaranteed all plants to be genetic replicas of their parent and also help speed up the initial growth process, cutting down on total time. Hope I helped.

Blackie

Nov 1 2009, 5:06 pm

Hey Austin, depending on where you are located and the climate you can expect different things. I am asssuming youre in the states and that you are seeing shorter daylight and colder temps. I would say the minimum amount of sunlight you want for your vegie period is 14 hours (this can actually help your number of female vs. males if from seed). If the temps drop too low, the growth rate of your babies will slow to a halt and if its too cold, they will die. A tent that lets in light with a heater or bringing them in at nite for warmer temps can work too. Once again though, it depends on it your are further north or down south and how extreme the temps get. If you keep the base of the plant warmer, the plants can take a slightly lower temp as well. Good Luck!
