Now that it’s legal, demand for weed has increased. Because of this demand, commercial growing has seen effects on employment because of this demand.
But beyond the benefit of more agricultural jobs, legalization helps the environment. In fact, according to Jessica Owley of University at Buffalo Law School, treating marijuana farming like we treat other crops helps us gain “stricter regulation of the growing process, including limits on pesticide usage, water pollution, wetland conversion, air pollution, and local land-use laws.”
These new policies give more control over farming practices, creating both environmental and economic benefits.
