Research Scientist 1/2 (Analytical Chemistry)
Job Description:
The candidate will also play a role in supporting quality assurance for the State’s medical marijuana program.
Will work closely with others in the Department of Health to manage all phases of a multisite clinical research trial to be conducted in New York State. This will require coordination of Internal Review Board Approvals, preparation of required Federal Food and Drug submissions, provision of any reporting required by the Drug Enforcement Agency, and data collection and preparation for any required audits, in coordination with onsite trial managers. The job may require onsite training or study monitoring at different locations in New York State and provision of assistance to families involved in the trials. The candidate will also play a role in supporting quality assurance for the State’s medical marijuana program.
This will involve assistance with all aspects of regulation of applicant or approved commercial laboratories offering testing of medical marijuana products. This may include review of procedures, inspection of laboratories and review of their quality assurance program.
Job Requirements:
RS 1: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related field and two years of professional research experience in that field; or a Master’s degree in the appropriate field and one year of such experience.
RS 2: Bachelor’s degree and three years of professional research experience in Chemistry or a related field; or a Master’s degree in the appropriate field and two years of such experience; or a doctorate in the appropriate field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to critically evaluate and interpret scientific studies and data. Experience in any aspect of conducting multi-media human health risk and/or outcome assessments. Experience with clinical trials. Preference will be given to those candidates with excellent written and oral communication skills for both technical and general audiences, strong data management and analysis skills, good organizational skills and those with competence in computer software.

and equipment, and may undergo pre-employment and/or periodic health evaluations and receive specific immunizations. In addition, dependent upon the initial assignment or subsequent re-assignment of this position, background checks may also be required. The candidate can have no association with anyone involved in cannabis product production or distribution or any commercial laboratory performing cannabis-related testing.
