DC Newspaper Will Pay Your Marijuana Fine

A DC newspaper is eager to see how local law enforcement will be dealing with the recent marijuana decrim, so they’ve offered to pay the $25 fine for the first five people they hear from who have received citations.

The new law decriminalizes possession of less than an ounce of marijuana for personal use. (Although smoking or selling weed is still illegal.) Previously the penalty for possession was $1,000 and up to six months in prison.

Want to get the skinny? Jump over to City Paper and see the deal, but here’s what they say:

“A couple of guidelines: We don’t need to publish your name if you don’t want us to, but we do need to know it. So send us a clear photo of the citation, and if you’d like to remain anonymous, we’ll blur out identifying details before posting anything. Let us know exactly what happened—why did the police stop you, and where? How did they find the pot? Did they confiscate it? What did they say about it, and did they seem to be aware of the new law?”

If you happen to take part in this experiment, please send your story to us here at High Times and we’ll print it!
