“If the words ‘life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness’ don’t include the right to experiment with your own consciousness, then the Declaration of Independence isn’t worth the hemp it was written on.” ― Terence McKenna / ethnobotanist, mystic, psychonaut, lecturer, author, psychedelics advocate
Snarky and quippy, Terence McKenna delivered many weed quotes. However, this one harkens back to the United State’s founding documents. But there is evidence to say that this document was in fact not written on hemp, as many hemp advocates would want to believe. No matter the material on which the Declaration of Independence was written, to challenge one’s right to alter consciousness does indeed go against the founding principles of the United States.
