5 Ways to Celebrate Cheech Marin’s Birthday

Cheech Marin turns 70 today, and we’d be remiss not to wish half of the eponymous stoner duo a big Happy Birthday!

In honor of his special day, here’s five stony ways to celebrate.

1. Grab Your Best Friend and Light Up a Fat Joint

This might go without saying, but any big stoner celebration must start with lots of weed—and if you’re celebrating Cheech, you should definitely bring your own personal Chong along for the ride. So roll up a fatty and puff, puff, pass.

2. Fire Up Your Netflix Queue

Now that your sufficiently stoned (or at least on your way), queue up some weedy watchables on Netflix. The streaming service has a respectable amount of stoner favorites, including “Cheech and Chong’s Up in Smoke,” “Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie” and “Cheech and Chong’s Hey Watch This.”

3. Break Out Your Old Copies of HIGH TIMES and Relive the Good Ole Days

Or if you don’t have any old copies, get a subscription to our HIGH TIMES digital archive and check them out. Cheech has been on our cover quite a few times, and you’ll want to see them all!

4. Give Into Your Munchies and Snack on Some Chicharrones

A chicharron is deep-fried pig skin, and a perfectly indulgent way to curb your munchies! The snack is also how Cheech got his his nickname.

“I was born and my uncle looked in the crib, and I was this curled-up little baby and he says, ‘Oh, he looks like a little chicharron,'” Marin explained during a Comedy Couch interview. “So that became my family name, Chicharron. And that got shortened to Cheech.”

5. Go Outside, Bask in the Sun and Jam Out to Your Favorite Tunes

There’s nothing wrong with your dark, smoke-filled bedroom, but it’s July and the sun is shining! Grab your best buddy, a vape pen and some portable speakers, and go soak in that sun! Bonus points if you sing “Happy Birthday” to Cheech.
