Miguel Wishes For Weed During Interview About His New Album

It appears the R&B sensation also doubles as a cannabis connoisseur.

In the midst of cannabis law reform, people everywhere have become increasingly candid about their weed-usage—a topic that was once considered taboo. Celebrities especially have opened up about their once-secret affinity for the herb, and have shed plenty of light on their marginally illegal pastimes on late night television, magazine interviews and even, daytime talk shows.

R&B star Miguel is no different and the acclaimed singer recently shed some light in an interview about his upcoming album War & Leisure, a record projected to be his most politically-charged musical creation yet.

Miguel’s Wish

In an interview with Billboard, two days before the singer’s 32nd birthday, the artist indicated that the waterfront view at the Marina del Rey Ritz-Carlton in Los Angeles would have been exponentially better with a certain green plant.

“Damn—I should’ve brought the weed with me,” Miguel said.

Miguel has become noticeably more upfront about his views since the singer has garnered mainstream notoriety. Not just on weed, but his political views in general. In contrast to his earlier music, which included songs like ” Pussy is Mine” and “Quickie,” Miguel is starting to bring political awareness to his craft.

“We’re trying not to pay attention, but we have to pay attention,” Miguel said in the interview. “With my albums, I always try to take a picture of what’s going on in my life. War & Leisure has political undertones, because that’s what life feels like right now. This album is intentionally about the ethos right now, that we are right in the middle of all this. We’re trying to flourish in the middle of all this. We all wake up, and it’s time to be creative and amazing and positive and all the things that we’re supposed to be when you look on Instagram, but then we’re dealing with these same problems, this injustice, wars between politicians with egos. Like, 140 characters are going to get us into a war right now?”

It’s safe to say Miguel considers himself  “woke.”

Final Hit: Miguel Wishes For Weed During Interview About His New Album

Miguel certainly doesn’t shy away from talk about his stance on current politics, so it’s no surprise he would casually bring up smoking weed in an interview with the music juggernaut, Billboard.

Unsurprisingly, however, this hasn’t been the first time Miguel opened up about his weed usage.

In a 2015 interview with Spin, the singer/songwriter was asked about his favorite hobbies. In a list that included meditation, binge-watching documentaries and hiking, he was sure to mention that smoking weed was up there as one of his top pastimes.

However, despite Miguel’s apparent affinity for weed, it hasn’t always been that way. In an interview with the Guardian, the R&B sensation claims he was a late bloomer.

“I was not a part of the social scene in high school,” Miguel said. “I wasn’t going to parties, I wasn’t drinking, I wasn’t smoking, I definitely wasn’t smoking weed, I wasn’t having sex. Late bloomer. Really late bloomer.”

Better late than never.
