Paul’s Boutique: A Visual Companion

Holy Johnny Ryall! 25 years after the release of the Beastie Boys classic Paul’s Boutique, the landmark album is receiving a visual companion. The Boys delivered a soundtrack that defined a generation, with druggy anthems like “Car Thief” (I don’t buy cheeba I grow it/ Marijuana/ People always trying to get next to me/ I had a beautiful experience on Ecstasy) alongside funky tracks like “Shake Your Rump” and “Hey Ladies.” Released on July 25, 1989, the album solidified the Beastie Boys’ status as critical favorites in the hip-hop world.

The film project looks like a trippy combination of music video clips, footage of the Boys, and a slew of footage from live action and animated films. Creator Paolo Gilli posted a trailer for Paul’s Boutique: A Visual Companion:
