As former High Times editor David Bienenstock explains in How to Smoke Pot (properly), Bogart-ing a joint is exactly what you don’t want to do.

This is when you hold on to the joint without passing it to others, who are hoping for some herb. The term comes from Humphrey Bogart, American icon and ’40s film star who would hold a cigarette in his mouth for seemingly endless stretches of time.

Don’t do that.
