If you’ve made it this far (how much royal engagement news have you had to scroll through?), you must be asking yourself this burning question: Does Prince Harry smoke weed? The man synonymous with British royalty hasn’t been all that candid about his weed-smoking habits, but it remains ambiguous, at the very least. So we decided to play a little detective, and figure out whether or not Harry smokes weed, once and for all. Check out what we managed to dig up.
Chances are, you’re already pretty familiar with the Prince of Wales, but here’s a little refresher course, anyways.
Prince Harry—otherwise known as Prince Henry of Wales or by his birth name, Henry Charles Albert David—was born September 15, 1984, and is currently fifth in the line of succession to the British throne. He’s the second child to Prince Charles, the heir apparent to Queen Elizabeth II and the late Princess Diana.
Harry attended private schools his whole life and graduated from Eton College in 2003 before attending the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in May of 2005. In 2007, Harry was sent on tour to Afghanistan and became the first member of the Royal Family to serve in a war since his uncle, Prince Andrew, did so back in 1982 during the Falklands War.
In 2008, Harry joined the Army Air Corps in an effort to learn to fly military helicopters like his father, uncle and brother before him. In 2012, Harry returned to Afghanistan as a co-pilot and gunner for an Apache Helicopter.
In 2014, Harry founded the Invictus games, an Olympic-styled sporting event for injured servicemen and women. Harry, who took great interest in helping wounded servicemembers, also worked closely with the London District’s Personal Recovery Unit in 2015 to ensure wounded soldiers would have adequate recovery plans. Harry eventually left his army post in June of 2015.
Harry is an avid sports fan and participates in various competitive sports such as skiing, water polo, rugby and motocross. He is currently engaged to actress Meghan Markell, whom he recently proposed to.
So back to the question at hand—does Prince Harry smoke weed? Believe it or not, there is a decent amount of evidence to support the Prince of Wales likes to toke up.
In fact, Harry even spent a day in rehab back in 2002, when he was just 17 years old after he admitted to underage drinking and cannabis consumption. Since then, there haven’t been many rumblings of the prince smoking weed, so it’s unclear whether or not he has started back up again. However, there was one recent event that suggests he could still be somewhat enamored by cannabis culture.
Harry and current fiance Meghan Markell attended the wedding of Harry’s old friend Tom Inskip back in March. The wedding was in Montego Bay, so naturally, plenty of the guests were smoking weed. Legally, of course.
Unfortunately, it’s unclear whether or not Harry toked up at the event himself. At the very least, he was comfortable enough around weed to hang around all night.
While it’s not totally clear whether or not Prince Harry still smokes weed, we do know he’s dabbled in the past. We also know he’s more than comfortable with some occasional second-hand smoke. Cannabis is still somewhat looked down upon in the UK, so it’s likely Harry is going to do everything he can to keep any possible usage under wraps. But with the war on weed waning each and every day, maybe we haven’t seen last of Prince Harry, the toker.
