Thus far, only one licensed business resides in Seattle, Washington’s main medical marijuana hub. According to Seattle PI, “Locations receiving licenses were selected by taking into account population, geographic dispersion and the individual applicant’s readiness to be licensed.”

The approved businesses now have 24 hours to get their inventory in line and ready for sale tomorrow morning. After the “24 Hour quarantine period” — during which businesses must register retail products with the state and fill out a document allowing them to transport to dispensaries — the businesses can begin transporting flower and stocking their shelves.

Top Shelf Cannabis in Bellingham believes they will be the lone business ready to roll at 8 AM tomorrow morning, so we expect that they’ll receive the honor as Washington’s first dispensary make a sale.

For now, these 24 businesses will be the first beneficiaries of Initiative 502’s long-awaited activation. That number should continue to grow this summer and throughout the year, as the state has given initial approval to a total of 334 dispensaries in the state.

We’ll be keeping an eye on the situation and providing updates as the fluid situation gets underway. It’s a pleasure to finally call Washington America’s second legal weed state.

Now let the games begin…
