New Pot Species Story a Hoax

“If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.”

“You can’t believe everything you read on the Internet.”

Both of these statements are not only true, they’re critical to our biggest story of the year, so far: the possible discovery of a new species of marijuana, reportedly found in Australia. Unfortunately, this was proven to be a hoax (by someone with a lot of time on their hands).

High Times wanted to wait to contact the supposed researcher first, but the story was just too hot to ignore. Then, a reader pointed out to us that the domain of the original source was fake, and not really NBC News/Discovery Networks. In fact the whole thing was an overly-elaborate Rickroll with no punchline.

Since the original prankster wasn’t able to deliver, why don’t we help him out and play the video?
