If you thought medicinal cannabis was only beneficial to humans, think again.
Oscar, a breeding dog who spent most of his life in a puppy mill, was unable to use either of his hind legs. Safe Haven Animal Rescue saved Oscar from his cruel and decrepit lifestyle and made it their goal to help Oscar become healthy again.
So far, so good.
The President of Safe Haven Animal Rescue, Lisa Jensen, claimed a combination of spinal surgery and CBD oil helped Oscar regain some of his footing, as he is now strong enough to stand for several seconds at a time. That is a far cry from where he was prior to the treatment, where he had no ability to put pressure on either leg.
“I thought, ‘Oh my gosh.’ And he was just progressively getting better,” Jensen said. “All of a sudden one day, I turned around and looked and I saw him balancing on one of his back legs. And I about fell over.”
Jensen claimed that her own use of CBD oil made it a consideration for Oscar.
“I started using CBD,” Jensen said. “And I thought, ‘It can’t hurt. Let’s just see what it does.’”
CBD and Animals
Unsurprisingly, CBD use in animals isn’t all too uncommon, and thus far, it has yielded somewhat favorable results.
Jimmy Shannon of Ambary Health claims he wasn’t surprised with Oscar’s results, presumably because of the similar genetic makeup in mammals, specifically, in the central nervous system.
“The reason why CBD works so very well is because we have an endocannibinoid system that runs through our body parallel with the central nervous system,” Shannon said. “Same effects that CBD have for humans, they also have on our pets. Seizure, arthritis, cancer, anxiety,”
CBD has also been proven to treat chronic pain, tumors, seizures, muscle spasms, skin conditions, appetite stimulation, aggression, anxiety and neurological disorders in pets.
And with an incredibly low-THC content, CBD treatment won’t ever get your pet high, if that’s what you’re thinking. The most common side affect in animals is drowsiness, which is no different from giving them an over-the-counter Benadryl.

While Oscar’s case may be noteworthy upon first glance, the power of CBD oil should no longer surprise anyone. With a variety of medicinal benefits proven over the years, it’s no wonder why even anti-cannabis states are beginning to legalize it.
Although the medicine is still not legal in all 50 states, miraculous stories like Oscar’s could force the federal government’s hand quicker than anyone had ever anticipated. The proof continues to be in the pudding.
