After his battle with addiction, Lamar Odom announces plans to launch weed business. The ex-husband of reality star and businesswoman Khloé Kardashian hopes that his business will help people struggling with substance abuse.

Lamar’s Struggle With Drugs

In 2015, Lamar Odom experienced a highly-publicized overdose, which left him in a coma. Towards the end of his career, the former Los Angeles Lakers player spiraled into crack use. He wound up doing drugs and partying at a legal Nevada brothel, where authorities found him unconscious.

At the hospital, doctors diagnosed Odom with a stroke and brain damage. Someone inside the hospital informed E! News, “He was doing crack cocaine all weekend and he choked on his mucous. They’re now having to fix all the damage it has done.”

Despite grim predictions, Lamar Odom recovered and successfully completed rehab. Odom told US Weekly, “Coke is a real psychological drug. You can be getting high and feeling great and then on the way down cursing yourself out. […] I learned about addiction [in rehab] and that it’s a brain disease.”

Lamar Odom has been sober since his crack cocaine overdose.

Weed Helped Odom Get Off Cocaine

Odom has been open about using weed to overcome his cocaine addiction. Odom related to The Blast, “While going through rehab, I discovered certain strains that support wellness.”

This is far from the first instance of marijuana helping with addiction. New research shows that medical marijuana can help fight the opioid addiction by giving people access to non-addictive painkillers.

Additionally, healthcare experts are lauding marijuana as a direct treatment for addiction. A rehab center called High Sobriety opened last year in Venice Beach, California. They focus on treatment involving marijuana.

Even Dr. Oz supports marijuana for addicts. On Fox News, Dr. Oz defended the herb: “People think it’s a gateway drug to narcotics. It may be the exit drug to get us out of the narcotic epidemic.”

Lamar Odom is also a big fan of marijuana for addicts. Furthermore, his enthusiasm for the herb comes from personal experience. After he successfully recovered from a crack addiction, Odom recounts being questioned about his success.

Odom explains, “Friends, associates, and ex-teammates asked me what solutions I was using on my road back to recovery, and that’s when Rich Soil Organics was born.”

Rich Soil Organics is the name of Lamar Odom’s new marijuana business venture. Reportedly, his company will sell “organically grown, pesticide-free cannabis.” They’ll reportedly offer both CBD and THC-based products in the form of extracts, concentrates and flower.

Odom plans on launching his business in California first.

In light of the opioid epidemic and marijuana legalization, Odom’s business idea is timely. “It’s a perfect time to offer these Cannabis solutions to the public who may be going through similar body issues as I am,” Odom says.

Other Athletes Are Investing In Weed

Another celebrity athlete, former Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams, has been a vocal marijuana advocate. Last year, Williams launched Real Wellness, a line of six marijuana-based products. Real Wellness offers vape cartridges, tonics and salves that contain a variety of CBD and THC combinations.

The Miami Herald reported on the brand’s mission: “Through our carefully chosen delivery methods of salves, tonics and vape cartridges, our products empower our clientele to harness the positive effects of herbs, like cannabis, in a more conscious and controlled way.”

Final Hit: Lamar Odom Announces Plans To Launch Weed Business

With his celebrity status and highly publicized overdose and recovery, Odom is set to build a profitable weed business. As a result of more celebrity involvement in the marijuana industry, more people will understand marijuana’s medicinal uses, especially in addiction management.
