Chris Christie Wants to Take Away Your Legal Pot

New Jersey Governor and noted blowhard Chris Christie is attempting to earn some socially conservative street cred for his long-shot White House bid by taking on marijuana legalization. While legal pot in Colorado and Washington State has proven both popular and profitable, Christie nonetheless threatened that, should he be elected president, the party would soon be over.

“I’m anti-marijuana. I believe it should still be illegal,” Christie warned while campaigning in New Hampshire. “If you’re getting high in Colorado today, enjoy it until January 2017, because I will enforce the federal laws against marijuana as President of the United States.”

While Christie has previously supported state’s rights when politically convenient, he quickly abandoned that stance when discussing states that have legalized marijuana for recreational use: “We have a federal law on the books that says marijuana is illegal in this country. Illegal. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.”

When asked why he is personally against pot, Christie replied with the usual litany of prohibitionist talking points: “I believe that it does damage to the brain and I think there’s plenty of evidence that proves it. I believe it is a gateway drug to other drugs and I don’t believe, given my experience in law enforcement, that it’s the right thing to do.”

He even threw in, “I don’t think we should be encouraging our young people to engage in it,” for good measure.

If you’re a glutton for punishment, you can hear Christie prostitute himself for votes say these things by playing the video below (beginning about an hour and 35 minutes in).
