For decades, rap music and smoking weed have essentially gone hand in hand. Mainstream hip-hop icons like Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa not only frequency reference the plant in their music, but have also become advocates for legal marijuana across the U.S. But apparently, not every artist is as big of a fan. Take Joey Bada$$, for example.
The 23-year-old rapper recently admitted on his Instagram that he will no longer be partaking in the green. In fact, he hasn’t even had a puff in over two months.
Joey Bada$$ Quits The Ganja
“2 months, 7 days no weed smoke,” the rapper initially posted on his Instagram story on March 7th.
After several fans began clamoring for more answers, Bada$$ once again took to the ‘gram to explain, in detail, about his decision to quit toking.
“Truth is I never seen myself smoking past 21. I been smoking everyday since 16, I am now 23, so I just took the new year as an opportunity to stop,” the rapper explained.
Bada$$ also said he felt that it was somewhat hindering his motivation and drive to be one of the best, and felt like he needed to take a break. At least until he’s comfortable, career-wise.
“I feel like smoking is for older people who have worked a long time and are looking to relax. Not for young people who have a lot more to accomplish and can’t afford anything slowing them down from getting to their destination,” he said.
“I get it though a lot of you think you need it to cop w the stress trust me I been there, But, meditation is much better.”
Despite his profound new view on weed, the rapper still doesn’t view weed in a negative light.
He still enjoys hanging around with his friends while they partake, and he even went as far to say he will have no problem starting back up once he’s “chilling in that multi-million dollar villa.”
However, Bada$$ did have one interesting tidbit in his Instagram rant.
When talking about the ever-changing landscape of the legal weed industry, Bada$$ warned his fans of potential ulterior motives from our government.
The rapper touched on his conspiracy, which, according to Bada$$ could be a ploy to control the masses.
“Why you think weed is becoming legal everywhere? Not just because it’s lucrative, but it’s now being used as a control tactic,” the 23-year-old claimed.
“Look it up and ‘STAY WOKE.'”
Final Hit: Rapper Joey Bada$$ Announces He Has Quit Smoking Weed
While it certainly commendable for Bada$$ to further concentrate on his career, the jury is still out on whether or not weed actually affects motivation.
Studies have said that it does slightly affect the regular dopamine levels of humans, which could cause apathy, but results generally vary.
Either way, smoking weed has always been a preference-thing amongst tokers and non-tokers alike, and the same goes for Joey Bada$$, as well.
At least, for now.
