O’ Christmas tree, that looks like weed
It’d be cool if it had real buds
O’ Christmas tree, you don’t come with seeds
But you look great in my apartment
Seven leaves and O’ so green
Will it fit in my rolling machine?
O’ cannabis, for the rest of us
We want to smoke it all day long.
It’s the magical time of year again when we decorate everything we own with colorful, flashing lights in hopes that the big man in the red suit will spot us from the sky on Christmas eve and leave us tons of goodies and worthless gadgets to disconnect us even further from the real world in the new year.
Ah, but if you really want to impress the one called Santa Claus, you might want to skip the traditional Tannenbaum from your local Boy Scout troop and get to trimming a corner of your living room with a plastic perennial that will have the fat man saying, “Merry Christ-buds!”
The word on the street is that retail giant Walmart has been selling what it calls a “Weed Marijuana Leaf Christmas Tree” for those folks looking to put more high in their holidaze.
It’s a festive plastic cannabis bush that is guaranteed to “light up the room and put you mind in the right head-space for holiday cheer,” according to the product’s sales pitch.
Although the photo associated with the 7-foot monstrosity shows it modeled in a big red bow and colorful hanging ornaments, the whopping $250 price tag on this budding bad boy will not afford you those amenities. It’s a completely naked bush designed for the customer to exercise his or her own creative discretion before putting it on display.
As the penned pitch goes on to explain, “You’ll be able to relax and giggle at the marijuana leaves and decorate it as you please. This alternative Christmas tree is perfect for personal top-shelf life at home or as a medical dispensary decoration. Green Wishes and Happy Holidhaze!”
Interestingly, when some of the other cannabis publications spotted this nifty novelty being sold by Walmart, they quickly chastised the store for trying to “cash in this year on the cannabis movement.”
We find it a bit odd that the marijuana community has been fighting for decades to push the plant further into the mainstream, but as soon as it shows signs of actually going there, some folks flip out over the possibility of corporate America taking it over. Don’t over think it, kids. This development is a Cannabis Miracle.
Well, it was.
It seems as soon as the pot leaf Christmas tree started to get a little attention in the media, Walmart made the decision to pull the plastic plant from its website. Fortunately, the product is still available through various other online retailers, like eBay and Costumeish.
But for the money, it is actually cheaper to put a real cannabis plant in your home for festive purposes.
Some reports indicate that cannabis cultivators are willing to sell a seven-foot cannabis plant go for around $200. Considering that it takes several months to grow a towering weed wreath, it might be too late for some of you to add this to your holiday décor before Santa comes.
But there is always next year!
O cannabis, o cannabis
We’re going to get one with real buds
