GG4 began with a cultivation accident, not a polished breeding roadmap. Joesy Whales was growing Sour Dubb, Chem’s Sister, Chocolate Diesel, and Chem’s Sister × Sour Dubb offspring when stressed plants expressed intersex flowers and pollinated the room. Mardogg saved seeds from the seeded Chocolate Diesel material, and a later germination produced several numbered females. Number four was the keeper.
The cultivar became Gorilla Glue #4 because its resin made hands, phones, and trimming tools stick together. GG Strains, founded by Joesy Whales and Lone Watty, carried the cut into competition history, including first place in the 2015 High Times World Cannabis Cup.
A trademark settlement ended commercial use of the Gorilla Glue name. Gorilla Glue #4 became GG4 or Original Glue, while the genetics stayed put and the old name refused to leave cannabis vocabulary.
