High Times Strain Profile
Permanent Marker
Candy Gas, Marker Ink, and a Purple Resin Coat
Permanent Marker stacks Biscotti, Sherb, and Jealousy genetics into one of the loudest hybrids of the 2020s. Sweet candy, floral soap, gas, and solvent funk ride over dark, icy flower and a high that lands with serious weight.
Overview
Permanent Marker showed up smelling like somebody left a felt-tip pen uncapped in a candy shop. Seed Junky Genetics built the cultivar from Biscotti S1, Sherb Bx1, and Jealousy F2, selecting for a strange collision of sweet candy, floral soap, creamy Sherbet, gas, and sharp solvent funk. The flowers run dense, dark, and heavily frosted, with purple leaf tucked under a thick resin coat.
The high carries the same volume as the nose. A euphoric, creative opening can stay social for a while, but deep relaxation usually catches up. Permanent Marker hit the market through Doja Pak in 2022, landed on High Times’ Best Strains of 2022 list, and then took Leafly Strain of the Year in 2023.
Flavor, Aroma & Terpenes
Aroma & Flavor
Top Terpenes
Permanent Marker actually earns its office-supply name. Sharp solvent and gas punch through first, followed by sugary candy, creamy Sherbet, floral soap, and a little citrus underneath. Depending on the grow, the finish can drift toward vanilla, tobacco, earth, or menthol, but that chemical-sweet collision is the part that sticks around.
Myrcene, limonene, and beta-caryophyllene recur most consistently in broad Permanent Marker testing. Other commercial cuts can push linalool or additional minor terpenes higher, so the exact order is not fixed across producers.
Effects
Permanent Marker can start upstairs before gravity shows up. The first stretch often feels euphoric, social, and creatively loose, but the heavier body side builds as the session rolls on. It is potent enough that the second half can change the evening's itinerary, especially when the flower is pushing toward the top of its reported THC range.

Genetics & Origin
Permanent Marker came out of Seed Junky Genetics’ Northridge breeding program after several years of work between 2019 and 2021. JBeezy first paired Biscotti S1 with a Sherb Bx1 male, selected a keeper female, then crossed that plant to a Jealousy F2 male. The finished pedigree is best written as (Biscotti S1 × Sherb Bx1) × Jealousy F2.
The selected plant hit the wider market through Doja Pak in 2022. Ryan Bartholomew gave it the Permanent Marker name and pushed the cut through high-profile drops on both coasts. Earlier versions had circulated under names including Adios MF and Gunnpowwder, but Permanent Marker was the name that stuck.
It stuck hard. High Times included the cultivar among its Best Strains of 2022, and Leafly named it Strain of the Year in 2023 as its national footprint exploded.

Grower Notes
| Flowering Time | About 8–9 weeks |
|---|---|
| Indoor / Outdoor | Indoor preferred; outdoor performance is less reliable |
| Yield | Medium |
| Plant Structure | Branchy when topped, moderate stretch, dense resin-heavy flowers |
| Grow Difficulty | Hard |
| Climate | Controlled indoor conditions with careful humidity management |
| Watch For | Dense-bud humidity, botrytis outdoors, canopy crowding, inconsistent yield when dialed poorly |
| Grow Style | Topping, trellising, canopy spreading, selective thinning |
Common Grow Tips
- Top early to encourage the broad, branchy structure commercial Permanent Marker growers have used successfully.
- Leave enough canopy space between tops; dense flower becomes harder to manage when branches crowd together.
- Keep humidity controlled through late bloom as compact buds gain weight and resin.
- Treat outdoor runs cautiously in humid climates; dense flowers can become vulnerable to botrytis.
- Plan for roughly 8–9 weeks of flowering, then let actual flower maturity determine the harvest date.
- Track nutrition and plant response closely; experienced commercial growers report better performance when the cultivar is kept well fed.
Permanent Marker was developed indoors and behaves like it. Topped plants can open into a broad, branchy frame with manageable stretch and dense golf-ball-sized flowers. The catch is that JBeezy considers it a cultivar that rewards experienced hands. Growers who get the environment right can pull strong flower, while sloppy rooms may struggle to make the plant yield.
