Cannabusiness: Seamless for Medical Marijuana Delivery Is Here

The so-called Silicon Valley-style normalization of the marijuana industry is expanding in all directions, benefiting customers as well as dispensaries…and one company is leading the way.

GreenRush, a San Mateo-based startup, is debuting an online platform that allows patients to search for products in nearby dispensaries based on their current location or by entering a specific address. After a one-time verification process that can be used in subsequent purchases, orders are confirmed for pickup or delivery and can be tracked from the dispensary right to the patient’s doorstep.

Paul Warshaw, GreenRush Founder and CEO, told the Pacific Standard that wants his start-up to become the Seamless of marijuana.

“The overall process of getting cannabis was very onerous, with everything from finding a dispensary to getting in the car and driving there to waiting in line and filling out paperwork,” Warshaw said. “We’re providing patients with as many options as we can.”

An iOS app is in development, so you can buy straight from your couch without even having to touch a keyboard, he explained.

“Each dispensary puts up its menu on our website, just as a GrubHub or Seamless would,” Warshaw explained. “Then it allows users to look through menus and order their usual or discover and try new products. Once they’re verified they can freely order from dispensaries listed on the platform.”

Eddie Miller, CEO of New York-based eCann and a major investor in GreenRush, sees big opportunities in the legal cannabis industry.

“The race to become the greatest company in the emerging cannabis industry has just begun,” Miller told the Upstart Business Journal. “Conglomerates will emerge, empires will be built.”
