As cannabis legalization takes hold across the nation and around the globe, marijuana festivals and events are emerging to celebrate freedom, knowledge and the political legitimacy of the healing herb.

Thirty years ago, in 1987, the first-ever High Times Cannabis Cup was held in Amsterdam. In 2010, High Times hosted the first-ever U.S. Medical Cannabis Cup in California. And when Colorado voted to legalize recreational cannabis for responsible adult use, High Times was there. We threw the biggest marijuana celebration the world had ever seen: the 2015 Denver Cannabis Cup.

Now here’s our guide to all the other marijuana festivals and events you need to know about! So get blazing!

Emerald Cup

The Emerald Cup is a huge celebration of Northern California’s medical cannabis. The festival is dedicated to advancing the concept of sustainable, outdoor farming and showcasing the best bud NorCal has to offer.

What started out as community celebration has grown into a weekend-long event honoring the year’s finest organic sun-grown cannabis harvest. A much-heralded judging competition takes place in the weeks leading up to the event, and winners are announced at the show. The next Emerald Cup takes place Dec. 9 and 10 in Sonoma. Musical guests include The Roots, Gramatik and Portugal. The Man.
