“Don’t get high and make promises or bets,” Killer Mike told us last year when we asked him about Meow the Jewels, the cat-centric remix of Run the Jewels 2. Duly noted! Killer Mike and El-P didn’t heed that sage advice, however, and we’re so glad. After El-P made a joke about remixing RTJ2 using only cat noises if someone bought a $40,000 deluxe edition of the album, fans rallied and raised the cash on Kickstarter. The campaign raised over $65,000, with the proceeds set to benefit “the families of those who have lost their lives to police brutality.”
And El-P and Killer Mike delivered: the duo took to their WRTJ Beats 1 radio show Friday to debut “Meowrly,” the cat version of “Early,” produced by Boots. It is the best thing on the Internet. Spark one up and check it out:
Back in January, El-P announced Meow the Jewels had secured a special guest: famous Internet feline Lil Bub, whose owner contributed a library of cat sounds to the remix. El-P tweeted:
thank god the money is going to charity because meow the jewels is going to be the single silliest fuckin record ever recorded.
