What Happens When You Smoke Weed at Mom’s House

If you are going to get high in a parent’s house, you had better make damn sure they do not have any suppressed snitching tendencies that might somehow rise to surface and get you bounced on by the boys in blue. Just ask 18-year-old Indiana resident Tyler Laster who was arrested over the weekend after his mom got fed up with him and his friends having a smoke session in her house and decided to call the law.

Police responded to the Porter County residence on Sunday afternoon, only to find a distraught mother of four searching for a way to force her teenaged son and his stoner buddies to stop smoking marijuana around her three younger children, according to The NWI Times. Of course, police were happy to oblige the mother’s request by storming into her son’s bedroom and launching a full-blown textbook-drug-war-shakedown on the teens that were just sitting around a table getting high.

Reports indicate that when officers asked the teens where the rest of the weed was stashed, Laster replied, “We just smoked it all,” which essentially pissed the cops off just enough to request a search of the premises. Obviously, not knowing how much trouble she was about to get her son and his friends into, the mother consented to a K-9 search of the home that uncovered drug paraphernalia, a digital scale and a small amount of weed.

Tyler Laster was charged with maintaining a common nuisance, possession of paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana, while his friends were booked for visiting a common nuisance and pot possession. All are currently spending some time in either the Porter County Jail or the Porter County Juvenile Detention Center.

Although the mother ultimately got what she asked for, she is now forced to contend with a teenager in desperate need of legal council. Indiana carries a penalty of one year in jail and a maximum fine of $5,000 for possession of marijuana under 30 grams. Toss in a maximum fine of $10,000 for possession of paraphernalia, along with legal fees, and all of a sudden this mother’s decision to call the cops on her stoner teen does not sound like the best possible way to deal with the situation.

Incidentally, the parent in this case could have also been charged with a crime, as well as had her property seized and even lost custody of her three minor children. In other words, it is never a wise decision to summon law enforcement to handle a household dispute involving illegal drugs – nine times out of ten this will not go in your favor.
