3 Beginner Grow Tips of the Week | Jan. 24, 2017

Tuesday’s tips for beginner growers are brought to you by HIGH TIMES Cultivation Editor Nico Escondido.

1. When garden temperatures rise above 85°F, plant photosynthesis begins to slow down exponentially. Ideal garden temperatures are between 70 – 78°F.

2. Metal Halide bulbs are most commonly used for plants in the vegetative stage because they are heavier than other lamps in the blue spectrum (430 – 460nm). Blue spectrum helps plants to grow shorter and bushier by helping create shorter internode lengths (the distance between branches), which creates more bud sites and better yields.

3. A lack of available root air (oxygen) during the dark cycle will slow root growth. Permeable grow mediums (clay pellets) and containers (such as fabric) are recommended for this reason.
