A city official is under fire for berating a local resident and war veteran for his use of medical and recreational marijuana.

After a heated, 2-hour debate on cannabis legalization in Arizona last week, Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery took questions from the audience, and that’s when the inflammatory exchange was caught on camera.

According to The Free Thought Project, Vietnam veteran Don Ream confronted Montgomery about his use of the term “pot heads” to describe medical marijuana patients, calling it offensive. He then went on to explain how after four years of using medicinal pot, he is no longer reliant on prescription pills and offered to educate Montgomery about cannabis.

“We’ll educate you,” Ream said. “I feel sorry for you. You’ve been deceived.”

Montgomery responded by saying there is a difference between medical and recreational use, causing Ream to comment that he also uses his weed recreationally.

That’s when things got ugly. Montgomery shot back with an incendiary retort attacking Ream and his military service.

“Well, then you’re violating the law, and I have no respect for you,” Montgomery said. “I have no respect for someone who would try to claim that you served this country and took an oath to uphold the Constitution and protect against all enemies foreign and domestic—because you’re an enemy.”

These insults were immediately met with boos from the audience.

InfoWars reported that after the incident, Montgomery claimed that he had been “mischaracterized” and took to Twitter to chastise those questioning his actions.
