Arkansas AG Rejects 2018 Marijuana Legalization Proposal

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Attorney General Leslie Rutledge has rejected a proposed constitutional amendment for the 2018 ballot that would legalize Arkansas marijuana in the state.

The proposal by Mary Berry of Summit would allow for the cultivation, production, distribution, sale, possession and use of the cannabis plant and all products taken from the plant, including marijuana.

Rutledge wrote in an opinion released Monday that the proposal is being rejected because of ambiguities in the text, including whether or not a license is required, whether taxes are allowed and whether a parent could provide medical marijuana to a minor child.

Rutledge in April approved a similar ballot proposal by Berry for the November 2016 election.

Rutledge spokesman Judd Deere said Monday’s rejection does not affect the 2016 proposal.

  • Anybody with common sense can look at this and see that doesn't make sense. Arkansas people want full legalization but the elite doesn't amongst the elite but AG and legislators bash at these people down 5 times in one year Arkansas needs to be under a unconstitutional investigation towards legalization of fairness Arkansas this state needs the revenue and jobs every time you turn around there are raising taxes for highways and infrastructure federal government gives Arkansas money every year to fix the roadway let the Cannabis pay for it Bible Belt Thumpers God sees all

  • The real problem here is the Federal Gov. They have lied for so long, that they believe they are right, regardless of all of the medical evidence. That and Pharmacy, alcohol and tobacco lobbyist bribe them into keeping a law that only keeps money into their pockets. Prohibition made the Mob huge, The war on drugs made the cartels powerful. Politicians only punish the innocent, that keeps their friends and bribers out of jail.

    • You're very much alright if it snows they do business with the cartels been doing it for years United States people are the most blind people in the world to fat but yet will write opinion like a damn wave their thoughts on the shore that leads us to know we're broke and disgusted and busted what needs to happen and people need to ask these questions especially to the federal government if marijuana is so dangerous then prove it if it is a gateway drug then prove it they can lie all day but can not tell us the dam facts why don't no one see that s***

  • Quit posting s*** in states that are not legal we're patients will preciate if you keep your sales to promote your sales for cannabis somewhere else we can't even buy the s*** so why would you make a comment about that promote your business in the state where is illegal thank you

  • Well, I’m glad to have read this to say the least. Never would have dove into this topic myself. Very interesting!
