Prince of Pot Marc Emery Released from US Prison, Returned to Canada

Marc Emery, the Canadian marijuana legalization activist whose extradition to the United States for selling pot seeds outraged many in the cannabis community, has been returned to Canada today after serving more than four years of a five-year prison sentence.

The case made international headlines and called into question Canadian sovereignty due to the fact that Emery’s “crimes” weren’t committed in the US and weren’t punishable by jail in Canada. The DEA even admitted that the takedown was politically motivated in a statement released on July 29, 2005 after Emery was originally arrested. Then-DEA Administrator Karen Tandy stated:

“Today’s DEA arrest of Marc Scott Emery, publisher of Cannabis Culture Magazine, and the founder of a marijuana legalization group – is a significant blow not only to the marijuana trafficking trade in the US and Canada, but also to the marijuana legalization movement.”)

Marc plans to continue to fight for the worldwide end of marijuana prohibition while his wife, Jodie Emery, plans to run for the Liberal Party of Canada in the next federal election.

Jodie tells High Times, “Today is a momentous day in the history of our movement, and I just can’t wait for Marc to come home!”

After crossing the border from Detroit to Windsor today, Marc will make a speech at Windsor City Hall Plaza. A “Welcome Home” rally will be held in his hometown of Vancouver, British Columbia Sunday, August 17 at 12:00 pm PDT. A 30-city cross-Canada advocacy tour is also in the works.

  • Canada should kick-out. Ithe D.E.A. t is obvious they will use any lie, and subterfuge, and dirty trick to hold power. So-called' justice has become the lie they tell to impose their own rule and to exploit the populace.. Even the Canadian government rolls over and licks their boots. How can Canada have any honor after this? I admit I now see Canadians as another gaggle of bootlickers.
