LEWISTON, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a Canadian woman has been caught trying to smuggle more than 50 pounds of marijuana into western New York by hiding it in a foosball table.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say the woman was stopped Wednesday at the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge border crossing, just north of Niagara falls.
She told officers she was heading into New York state to buy tickets for Wednesday night's $1.6 billion Powerball jackpot, but a search by a K-9 team discovered 50 vacuum-sealed plastic bags with marijuana stuffed into a foosball table in her van.
Officials say the pot was worth about $60,000. The woman was turned over the New York State Police.
The same day in neighboring Vermont, a Canadian man was arrested while pulling a sled carrying more than 180 pounds of prescription pills across the border.
