A new survey from Quinnipac University shows that legalizing cannabis has a higher approval rating than any of the presidential candidates in three key presidential swing states.

According to the data, released Tuesday and Wednesday and compiled by Marijuana.com, legalization is supported by 57 percent of voters in Pennsylvania, by 56 percent in Florida and by 52 percent in Ohio. Comparatively, Hillary Clinton has 37 percent of voter support in Pennsylvania and Florida, with 34 percent of support in Ohio; Donald Trump has 39 percent in Pennsylvania, 37 percent in Florida and 36 percent in Ohio.

The candidate with the closest approval rating to that of marijuana legalization is Bernie Sander, with 50 percent of support in Pennsylvania, 45 percent in Ohio and 43 percent in Florida.

In terms of medical marijuana, support for legalization was even higher, with 80 percent of Florida voters backing medi-pot and 90 percent of Ohioans voicing approval. Pennsylvania voters were not asked specifically about medical marijuana legalization.

Unsurprisingly, support for ending prohibition in those three states was highest among Democrats and Independents.

In Pennsylvania, 67 percent of Democrats, 61 percent of Independents and 41 percent of Republicans supported legalization. In Florida, those numbers were 63 percent for Democrats, 65 percent for Independents and 40 percent for Republicans supported legalization. In Ohio, 67 percent of Democrats, 57 percent of Independents and 30 percent of Republicans supported marijuana reform.
