10 Reasons to Get Excited About the Central Valley Cannabis Cup

From the live musical performances to the rides, slides and—oh yeah—the massive quantities of recreational marijuana for sale, there will be plenty to do at the Central Valley Cannabis Cup this weekend in Sacramento. This will be like no cannabis event California has ever seen before as High Times (the website you’re currently reading) will host the first-ever licensed recreational cannabis event in the state. The Central Valley Cannabis Cup will be a two-day event going on from May 4-5 at the Cal Expo Fairgrounds, here are 10 reasons to start getting stoked now.

It’s the First Fully Licensed Recreational Cannabis Event

The Sacramento City Council approved the consumption and sale of cannabis at our venue by a 6-2 vote and, as a result, High Times will host the first permitted event for on-site consumption in the state since the recreational laws were implemented.

Coming Down Only Happens on the Super Slide

With the amount of recreational cannabis at the event, there’s no chance of you coming down. That is unless you stop by the super slide while super high. The thrill is a good pick me up for when you’re feeling couch-locked.

You Can Hit a Foot-Long Joint

Sean Cooley/High Times

There’s never been a cannabis cup where we didn’t see several baby-sized joints being passed around in the crowd. If you’ve never hit a foot-long blunt or joint, the cannabis cup will be the place to knock that off your bucket list.

You’re Free to Sit Down and Roll Up On-Site

There will be places to sit down and roll up at around the venue. Roll a few personal blunts to always be prepared or a foot-long if you’re about that life.

You Can Get Baked and Soak in the Live Art Mural

Once you’re high to your heart’s content, stop by the vibrant live art mural and see the artists process. It’s therapeutic to watch.

Hip Hop and Rap From a Grammy Award-Winning Lineup

Sean Cooley/High Times

We will have multiple Grammy award-winning artists performing for us in Sacramento including Ms. Lauryn Hill, Lil Wayne and Ludacris. We’ll also have Cypress Hill with Mix Master Mike, Gucci Mane, Rich The Kid, Rick Ross and more.

There’s Plenty of Food Trucks to Get Stuffed

Sean Cooley/High Times

You’ll want to stay hydrated and fed while at the event. With all of the weed at the Cannabis Cup, we know you guys will get hungry often. We will have a wide variety of California’s best food trucks serving anything from New York style pizza to more exotic dishes. When you get hungry just follow your nose or check the event map to find the gaggle of food trucks.

You’ll Get High AF in the Sky

Sean Cooley/High Times

One of our favorite parts of the cannabis cup is walking onto the Ferris Wheel with a joint lit. Get high while riding in the sky and soaking in the view. The ferris wheel is a great way to scope out the event from above.

So Many Freebies

Sean Cooley/High Times

If you hear a random crowd cheering, there’s a good chance there is free dank or swag in that area. Keep an eye on stages and DJ booths for freebies all day. We make it rain extra hard in the VIP areas.

You’ll Find the Hottest New Strains and Products

Sean Cooley/High Times

Check out the award show ceremony to find out what the best new strains are. You can also take a walk around the vending area. The booths will be filled with some of the most well-known breeders, growers and extractors in the state.
