Did God Give Us Weed?

Was it God on High—and not actually Satan—who gave us the “devils lettuce”?

If you are Pagan, Wicca, Hindi or Shinto you may very well believe in the divinity of cannabis. But if you are a God-fearing, bible-thumping Christian then the answer can only be “Yes!”

Wait, what?

With the inordinate number of Christian leaders who have meddled in pot-politics and done their best to hold back progress on marijuana law reform, how can this be so clear?

Well, while many in the Bible Belt will happily, albeit ridiculously, exclaim that cannabis is evil incarnate. The bible itself tells a very different story.

And it starts right at the beginning.

In the very first chapter of the very first book we find this:

Genesis 1:29—”And God said, ‘Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.'”

So, does pot have seeds? Is it on the Earth? Pretty straight forward it seems, but wait! There’s more!

A few chapters later in Genesis 9:3 we get:

“And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.”

Again, it is pretty hard to see how any Christian could argue that God didn’t create weed for us, but many still do.

The main criticism aimed at God’s obviously pro-weed stance is that in the New Testament several mentions are made about the evils of “drunkenness.” A pretty weak argument if you have ever experienced the difference between being smashed on booze and the pleasant buzz we are blessed with when using the sweet cane.

And speaking of sweet cane, it has even been postulated by experts that the “sweet cane” given as the main ingredient of the anointing oil made and distributed by Jesus Christ himself was almost certainly cannabis. And the recipe would make for a pretty strong transdermal medication indeed!

No wonder he was using it while healing people who could not see (like those with severe glaucoma), people with skin diseases (topicals are used for eczema and psoriasis relief) and even epilepsy (a condition clearly helped by Mary Jane).

So while pulpit pounding pastors might think the debate is still going on, there is no doubt who is actually on God’s side when it comes to the blessed herb!

  1. Jesus did not use any physical anointing oil that i know of, unless you are talking about types or forshadowings of Christ in the old testament?

  2. I agree that God created marijuana and it is good. However I also agree with Paul that Jesus did miracles outside of physical medicines, supernatural healings and it sort of puts down Jesus miracles to a physical level when you make the argument. Jesus loves us as we are and He wants us to come to Him.
